Jesper Fahey and Wylan Van Eck (Hendricks in the series) make up the sweetest kind of “it was you all along” relationship. In both Leigh Bardugo’s duology and Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, there’s an instant pull between them that effortlessly draws the audience to see why they’re perfect for each other. In the show, it thankfully happens quicker, allowing viewers the chance to see them as a couple before everything crumbles. There’s a one night stand off-screen, and then everything we get afterward shows us that what they see in each other are all the things missing in their lives.
While we don’t know if show Wylan also has a horrific father puppeteering everything, comments here and there about his home show us that he’s running from something. In the same way, Jesper is running from his Grisha powers and the very thing that killed his mother. Together, we slowly watch Jesper and Wylan give parts of themselves to one another to help them grow. They solidify the fact that it doesn’t matter if one can’t do something because they’re going to adore each other regardless. During and away from Kaz’s dangerous missions, we watched Jesper and Wylan look out for each other, quietly get to know one another and find a safe place away from all the chaos that forced them into dangerous situations.

There’s plenty that we didn’t have the opportunity to see, but we have enough to show us why they’d last. We have enough to understand that they don’t just adore each other’s stupid faces (affectionately), but they believe in them with every bone in their body. They gave one another a true home away from home, a place where they could voice their insecurities aloud and find comfort in the belief that they wouldn’t be judged for what they say or do.
They might not have a label, but damn if they aren’t proud to be beside each other. We have so much locked in Kit Young’s delivery of “My man” that it continues to showcase how utterly life-changing all of this truly is for Jesper. And how Jack Wolfe plays on Wylan’s tender shyness and fervent appreciation is no small feat. These two are it for each other, whether they call it something or they don’t. And even though there’s very little we have, we thankfully have a ton of amazing fan videos to celebrate their gorgeously incandescent relationship.
