It has been seven years since the fan-favorite FOX drama, Prison Break, ended its original run, but not a day goes by that fans don’t miss Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) and the whole gang. So, when FOX announced that they will be rebooting Prison Break this season AND they will be attending SDCC, let’s just say fans (myself included) were jumping for joy.
Prison Break follows Michael Scofield (Miller) as he tries to break his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Purcell) out of prison when he is sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. Michael devises an elaborate plan to help Lincoln escape prison by getting incarcerated himself and breaking him out from the inside. Little do the brothers know that breaking out is just the beginning.
With so many questions to ask about the upcoming reboot, it’s hard to narrow it down to just five questions. But here are some of the most intriguing and important questions we want answered at Comic-Con this year. Beware, spoilers ahead!
1. How is Michael Scofield Alive?
When Prison Break ended in 2009, fans were heartbroken to learn that Michael Scofield had met his demise. Throughout the fourth season, Michael was dealing with a brain tumor, that turned out to be incurable. In the final Prison Break TV movie “The Final Break”, fans learned that Michael only had months to live and he sacrificed himself to break Sara out of prison. The last shot fans are left with is Sara, her and Michael’s son, Michael Jr., Lincoln, Sucre and Mahone laying flowers on Michael’s grave in Costa Rica. So, how did Michael survive his incurable brain tumor? Was his “death” simply another elaborate plan? Also, why did Michael never try to contact Lincoln, Sara and/or his son?
2. How Did Michael End Up in Prison Again?
Okay, so the last time we see Michael Scofield, he is in prison trying to rescue Sara. He eventually makes the ultimate sacrifice and stays behind so Sara can escape. Now with the reboot coming out, we know that Michael somehow escaped the law after breaking Sara out, did not succumb to his brain tumor, and ended up living. So the inevitable question after “How is Michael Scofield Alive?” is “How did Michael End Up in Prison AGAIN?” In the premiere trailer for the Prison Break reboot, Lincoln learns that Michael is indeed alive and being held in a Middle Eastern prison. If Prison Break taught fans anything, it’s that Michael and Lincoln have some bad luck and are accident prone when it comes to getting locked in prison. So, how did Michael end up back in prison? Is this another elaborate scheme similar to when he broke Lincoln out? Michael does seem to have tattoos again, so it’s anyone’s guess at this point!
3. When Did T-Bag Get Out of Fox River AND Learn Michael is Alive?
Probably one of the most despised and villainous character on a TV drama, Theodore “T-Bag” Bagwell (Robert Knepper) makes his return in the Prison Break reboot. When fans last saw T-Bag he was living out his days in Fox River Prison once again. With no ending to his sentence in sight, T-Bag got back to his conniving ways, even handing his pocket to another unfortunate soul. In the reboot trailer, fans see T-Bag on Lincoln’s doorstep showing him a picture that confirms that Michael maybe alive. So the first question that comes up is when did T-Bag get out of Fox River? It’s impossible that he shortened his sentence because of “good behavior” considering he spent four seasons plaguing Michael, Lincoln and even viewers. So, how is T-Bag walking on the sunny side of the street again? Also, how did he find Michael? Was he searching for Michael? Did he hear something about him in Fox River? Who sent him the picture of Michael? Can he be trusted? So many questions around T-Bag for this Prison Break reboot.
4. What Will Happen When Sara and Michael Are Reunited?
The bromance between Michael and Lincoln was probably one of the greatest relationship on Prison Break, however the second best was the relationship between Michael and Sara. From the beginning of Prison Break, fans shipped these two characters together and it became a main relationship on the show. When fans last saw Michael and Sara, they were getting married on the beach, Sara was pregnant, and then Michael sacrificed himself to rescue her. For the reboot, Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains) is slated to play Scott Ness, Sara’s current husband. If that’s not a stab to a shipper’s little heart I don’t know what is. With Feuerstein listed as a main cast member, how will Sara’s new relationship affect her finding Michael? When will she join Lincoln in the search? What will happen when Sara and Michael are finally reunited? It’s safe to assume at some point, Michael and Sara will be reunited and Michael will get to meet his son, however how will it happen? What will Scott have to say about it? So many OTP questions!
5. Where is Sucre?
Alright, although Prison Break focused on Michael and Lincoln’s brotherly bond, Michael’s friendship with Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) became a staple for Prison Break. When fans last saw Sucre, he was finally rid of The Company and living happily with his daughter, Lila Maria. He’s last seen helping Michael break Sara out of prison and then joining Sara at Michael’s grave in Costa Rica. After everything went down with The Company, Sucre swore to never return to his life of crime and wanted to live happily with Lila Maria and the love of his life, Maricruz. Nolasco is slated to appear in the Prison Break reboot, however he isn’t seen in the first trailer released. Where is Sucre? Is he still living with Maricruz and Lila Maria? Whenn will he join the gang in the hunt for Michael? How epic and tear-inducing will his reunion with Michael be? What has he been up to all this time?
