After skipping San Diego Comic Con last year, Outlander is back and ready to deliver some amazing content for its fans. Droughtlander has been super long this season and fans are eagerly awaiting to find out about season 3 of Starz hit drama.
When we last left Outlander, Claire was sent back through the stones, pregnant with Jamie’s child. Meanwhile, Jamie stands in the middle of the Battle of Culloden, ready to fight. Fans also got the first glimpse of Brianna Randall, Claire and Jamie’s daughter, and Roger MacKenzie.
As we prepare for Outlander’s panel on July 21st at 5pm PST in Ballroom 20 at SDCC, we’re ready to ask questions and get some answers about the next exciting season of Outlander.
Here are five questions we want answered at SDCC!
When will season 3 premiere?
While we know Outlander is premiering this fall on Starz, we still don’t have an exact date. This is something that’s sure to be answered at SDCC, but we just can’t wait! This Droughtlander has been the toughest since the show began. Season 2 of Outlander wrapped last July, so we’ve gone almost a year without new content. Just to calm our Outlander fanatic minds, a firm premiere date is a must reveal at SDCC.
What episode will the iconic “print shop” scene take place in?
With season 3 following Diana Gabaldon’s third novel, Voyager, there’s one of the most important scene in the entire Outlander series that will occur. While we don’t want to give too much away for non-book readers, this scene will show Claire and Jamie reuniting for the first time since being separated during the Battle of Culloden. It’s a scene that will have Jamie and Claire fans on the floor weeping with joy as their hearts explode and we just know Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan will do it justice. The question remains, when will we get this iconic scene? How long will Outlander keep Jamie and Claire apart during season three?
How much Frank will we see?
When Outlander first became a TV show, a lot of the promotion for the show hinged on the love triangle between Jamie, Claire and Frank. It’s a love triangle that literally crosses time and space, but as season 2 progressed, Claire realized that she’s more in love with Jamie than she ever was with Frank. Of course now, Claire has gone back to Frank and is planning to raise Brianna with him. In Voyager, Frank isn’t seen much. The only time he’s mentioned is when Claire reminisces on how she fell back in love with Frank as she watched him be an amazing father to Brianna.
In terms of turing Voyager into Outlander season 3, a major question is how much Frank we will see. Tobias Menzies is still a vital cast member and we’re not ready to say goodbye to him. We hope we get some added scenes of Frank with Brianna, especially because it’s a vital father/daughter relationship that will drive a lot of Brianna’s story moving forward.
How true to Voyager will season 3 be?
This is always a question fans have when adapting a beloved book series to a TV show and Outlander is no exception. There’s always the question if storylines will be cut that were in the novel and if storylines will be added. A majority of Voyager takes place on a ship as Jamie and Claire sail to new adventures. The book acts as a lot of set up for book 4 in Gabaldon’s series, Drums of Autumn. A lot of Voyager is also descriptive as Jamie and Claire set sail. We’re wondering if there will be added storylines in order to combat some of the description that will be cut because we are seeing what’s happening.
How will season 3 be structured?
Outlander has always been a series that has several timelines going at once, but season three will definitely have more juggling of past and present than ever before. There will be Brianna and Roger in 1968, Claire traveling through the stones to find Jamie in 1766 and if there are any flashbacks to Frank, Claire and baby Brianna. We’re curious how Outlander will deal with all these timelines and how they will structure the season. Last year, they strayed from the structure of book 2 a little, so we’ll be interested to see their approach to season 3!
