Sky One, the British TV channel behind this supernatural drama, is giving us even more A Discovery of Witches! The TV giant confirmed that it’s ordering two more seasons of the series based on Deborah Harkness’ All Souls Trilogy. This news comes just as season one finishes airing in Britain and before it even premieres in the U.S.!
A Discovery of Witches tells the story of a witch & scholar named Diana, played by Teresa Palmer. One day, while minding her own business and living her best life, she stumbles across a manuscript that everyone wants to get their hands on in the Bodleian Library in Oxford. From demons to witches to vampires, all want to know how Diana got her hands on this book and how they can get their hands on it too.
That’s where Matthew, played by Matthew Goode, comes in. This 1k+ year old vampire draws Diana (and he falls too) into a forbidden romance that breaks stereotypes when it comes to star crossed lovers in media. Between them, we get to see some of the most romantic moments on TV that are wrapped in respect, kindness, and trust in the others abilities.
Family is also a key component in this series and why you should watch.
Diana has her aunt Sarah, played by Alex Kingston, and her aunts wife. And Matthew has his mother Ysabeau, played by Lindsay Duncan, his brother, and his two children/friends/work colleagues. (I know. Their bond is complicated.) The people in Diana and Matthew’s life don’t just disappear because the most epic of romances is gearing up and ready to take their world by storm. Family stays, family helps, and family guides these two as they navigate the love between them.
So gear up, get ready, and watch A Discovery of Witches when it premieres January 17, 2019 on Sundance Now & Shudder!
