Madelaine Petsch didn’t shy away from the words mental health when we got a chance to sit down with her during San Diego Comic Con and talk what’s coming up for Riverdale. And she didn’t shy away from talking about how Cheryl’s mental health would play a role in season 4 of a show that has dealt with basically everything.
In fact, Madelaine actually wanted us to know that the subject was going to be dealt with, not pushed aside, and that there was an interest on the part of the writers on dealing with the subject respectfully.
This is super important, especially for teenage shows. Because to say we don’t get enough of the good kind of representation would be an understatement. We barely get enough representation, let’s not go into how well it’s done.
So, to say we were impressed would be an understatement. And to say we’re excited to see how Cherly’s mental health issues are dealt with in season 4 would also be one.
For now, check out our interview with Madelaine Petsch below and then share with us your feelings about seeing this storyline play out!
Riverdale will return to the CW for season 4 in the Fall.
