It has been a while since we’ve seen the halls of the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted. Since last season ended with Hope Mikaelson sacrificing herself by jumping into Malivore for what she believed to be the greater good, we’re sure things aren’t going to look the same way they did when we left them.
We do know that no one can remember Hope, so that seriously complicates bringing her back. Rafael is stuck in his werewolf form, but his best friend Landon is by his side. We also know there are new characters joining the supernatural mix, like Alexis Denisof (Angel) as the new headmaster Professor Vardemus and Thomas Doherty (Descendants) as the old-fashioned vampire Sebastian who catches Lizzie’s eye. There is also a new Sheriff in town, and she has two kids who will attend Mystic Falls High School.
We thought it would be fun to discuss some of the things we want to happen in the upcoming season. Some of these things are based on what we know about the second season and others are wishes we want the super cool Jini Ablah to grant. Either way, we hope that some of them come true when Legacies returns.

THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE
Obviously we want to know what Hope has been up to since she dove into Malivore, and we want to know how to get her out as soon as possible. As a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and general supernatural popular culture, we have learned that whenever someone dies or experiences a life-altering experience in the way that Hope had been erased from the general consciousness, that person will hardly ever come back the way they once were. That sort of thing changes someone, no matter if they are a unique tribrid or a member of the oldest supernatural family in existence. Hope Mikaelson is a FORCE. That’s not something we will ever question, but we do wonder if she won’t waver a bit in who she is or what she believes when she does return to the Salvatore School.
Another thing to consider is the adjustments everyone will have unconsciously made to live a life without Hope Mikaelson. We are curious to know what a world without Hope Mikaelson looks like. We saw a few glimpses of that when Lizzie created alternate realities with her wishes from the Jinni. Is the world we will see similar or different to that? If Hope does come back to Mystic Falls, will she even want to intervene in the world that has existed without her for however long it may have been? Hope is quite the hero so we wouldn’t be shocked if sacrifice her own happiness in reuniting with people like Alaric and Landon to benefit their new lives without her. Hope ended last season with the greatest sacrifice. We hope that she’ll put herself first a little more this season.

CAMEOS
It’s no secret we are fans of cameos, especially those that can bring the TVD Universe even closer. We have been rooting for a Kai Parker cameo since the very beginning of Legacies. It only makes sense that Josie and Lizzie’s psychotic Uncle Kai will show up eventually. The girls have the ascendant that could be used to visit and/or free their uncle from the prison world he has been in since the final season of The Vampire Diaries.
We spoke with Matthew Davis (Alaric Saltzman) at SDCC and he mentioned that Ric may know a thing or two about the merge that he’s keeping from his daughters. Matthew Davis told us, “He [Ric] may have a secret that could unlock the problem and save both of his daughters, but if he tells them, they might take that key to save themselves and unlock a door to a dimension that may or may not release somebody they may or may not be related to into the world, which might be a bigger danger all around for the town.” If we wanted to make some hopeful assumptions from what he told us, we can assume that the prison world is the “dimension” and Kai could be “somebody they may or may not be related to in this world.” Longtime fans of The Vampire Diaries will know that Kai Parker is definitely capable of being “a bigger danger all around for the town.” Logically, we know we need to keep our fingers crossed to see Chris Wood as Kai Parker on our TVs again. Nothing is set in stone just yet but we have faith that it’ll happen one day, especially because Kai Parker may be the loophole the twins need to avoid the deadly side effects of the merge.
Luckily, we don’t have to wait too long to see another Mikaelson on Legacies. Freya Mikaelson, one of Hope’s few living relatives, is coming to Mystic Falls in the sixth episode of season 2. Freya is quite the renowned witch, so we’re guessing the Salvatore School needed to call in some extra assistance. It is heartbreaking to think that Freya may not even remember her niece if Hope is still stuck in Malivore when Freya visits. No matter what, it will be nice to see Freya help save the day again.

THE PHOENIX
We want to know about the Phoenix! Yes, we mean the mythological phoenix. We aren’t sure if phoenixes are a part of the Salvatore School’s curriculum, but they certainly should be now. We got to know Landon quite a bit last season, but we didn’t get to know much about his phoenix side. We want to know more about what it means to be a phoenix. We get that they rise from the ashes but there has to be more bubbling under the surface. What is the mythology of phoenixes? How do they interact with other supernatural beings? Does a phoenix have to train differently? These are a few of the many things we want to know.
Most importantly, we want to know why Landon is a phoenix. Sure, Landon has repeatedly gotten up after every difficult cards life has dealt him. He has become stronger because of those hardships, and eventually he found his people because of them. He found the Super Squad and Hope. In that sense, Landon is no stranger of rising from the ashes. However, knowing the TVD Universe, there is some supernatural explanation to all of this that will only make the stories richer. We can’t wait to see it and learn more about Landon and phoenixes along the way.

HISTORY: 101
There are so many characters that we feel like we didn’t get to know that well last season. We want to know more about MG, Rafael, Kaleb, and OBVIOUSLY Pedro. We are more than eager to meet the new characters we mentioned earlier, but we hope that doesn’t come at the expense of learning more about the characters we have come to love. Surely MG, Kaleb, and Rafael have rich backstories that deserve being told. It seems like Kaleb grew up with a different family dynamic than MG, and the show hasn’t even scratched the surface of Rafael and Landon’s past in the foster system. Each of these characters found their way to the supernatural world in their own unique way and we want to see it.

BEYOND THE MERGE
The merge has understandably taken up a lot of Josie and Lizzie’s time of late. We’re hoping that this season will see them take up other adventures. We know that Lizzie takes a liking to Sebastian, but we don’t know as much about what Josie is up to when the new season begins. Josie seems to be keen on doing everything she can to uncover as much as possible about the merge. We know it’s easier said than done, but since the merge doesn’t occur until the girls are 22, we don’t want their lives to be consumed by this.
From a viewer’s perspective, it wouldn’t be fun to watch Josie and Lizzie struggle with the possibility of the merge for an entire season. We’re sure this won’t be the case because the writers of Legacies are superstars.
