I’ve spoken to quite a few people in my life who feel that celebrities and famous people aren’t allowed to complain. They feel that the life that they have chosen to lead opens them up to being criticized and torn apart.
I don’t buy that.
I don’t feel that anyones job opens you up to anything – except doing your job.
Meghan Markle is on a different level. She was an actress and a blogger, but gave all of that up when she fell in love with Prince Harry and got married. She moved to England and works tirelessly to carry out her duties as a royal.
But the press is relentless.
The Duke and Duchess were recently in Africa on a royal visit, and were followed by a crap ton of reporters. But they were also filmed for a special that will air on ABC.
Markle got candid on her transition to royal life.
“Look, any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable. And so that was made really challenging, and then, when you have a newborn, you know?” she explained.
“Especially as a woman it’s really — it’s a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or just trying to be a newlywed. And also thank you for asking, because not many people will have asked if I’m OK, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”
But the most heartbreaking part? Markle was asked if it would be safe to say she’s “not really okay” in regards to adjusting to her life as a royal. And her answer, combined with the look on her face – just wow.
We should all learn boundaries, because a person – no matter their stature – should never have to feel like this.
