Freddie Prinze Jr. Joins The Cast Of ‘Punky Brewster’

I know what you’re thinking – another fucking reboot?

Ya, me too. Only my normal cynicism about reboots isn’t here today, because this is one that I can’t wait to see.

My heart is bursting with gratitude. I feel so much joy and thanks for the incredible days that I am spending at @unistudios with the most incredible team bringing #punkybrewster back. As a little girl I didn’t know where #Punky ended and I began because we were the same in so many ways. I still feel that way. The joy, the mamahood, the constant survivor coming of age all over again. It is an honor to play a character that is not so much a character but a living breathing human being that is such a part of me. I have always loved the smell of soundstages and the magic of of tv and movie making. To do something you believe in with all of your heart is one of the greatest gifts. So here I sit in front of back to the future feeling so thankful that we are going back to bring our #punky to the future. I see the magic in it all and I am drinking it up with all of my heart and soul. #punkypower forever ♥️🌈♥️🌈

And if that wasn’t good enough, the good news keeps on coming.

We were kind of pissed when Freddie Prinze Jr. was recast on Nancy Drew, but now we’re understanding that with every “bad” thing comes something good.

Freddie has joined the Punky Brewster reboot as Punky’s ex-husband.

His character is described as “a working musician who, despite being in and out of town, remains a great dad to his and Punky’s kids and still has some lingering feelings for Punky.”

The Punky Brewster reboot will air on Peacock – NBCs upcoming streaming service. The service will launch in April 2020.
