Gossip Girl will forever be one of our favorite shows. Sure, the ending of the original really wasn’t a highlight of the series, but I mean, can we name a lot of endings that are actually good?
Nope.
However, with Gossip Girl returning on Warner Bros. upcoming streaming service, HBO Max, we got a little bit nervous. Reboots aren’t always the greatest (we’re looking at you Fuller House) and a lot of times they take what was great and destroy it with what they think is better (but ruins the series).
One of the greatest things about Gossip Girl, was Kristen Bell’s voice-overs. Replacing her would be like replacing the voice of Darth Vader. And yes, it is that iconic. Don’t at me.
But it appears that we don’t have to worry, because HBO Max has seen the light and is bringing Kristen back as the narrator of the series.
“Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl,” the producers said in a statement.
No matter if the show is good or bad – or you know, the shit show that we expect it to be (sorry, not sorry) – we can never say that the producers got the voice of the narrator wrong. Because this is the best decision ever.
And has actually made us look forward to the series.
The series has scored a 10 episode order from HBO Max and picks up 8 years after the original series left off. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “It follows a new generation of New York private school teens who are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The series will address how much social media — and the landscape of New York — has changed in the intervening years.”
HBO Max will launch in May 2020, but there is no premiere date for Gossip Girl as of yet.
