Get ready to kick off 2020 with an all-new Doctor Who! The Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker, returns to launch the latest season on Wednesday, January 1st at 8/7c on BBC America. Subsequent episodes will air Sundays at 8/7c beginning January 5th. The Doctor will be resuming her adventures with her companions/friends/family Yasmin (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh).
To start things off, fellow Whovians will be gifted with a blockbuster, action-packed two-part episode titled “Spyfall.” And this news is made even better by the announcement that BBC America has partnered with BBC Studios and Fathom Events to bring Doctor Who back to the big screen on Sunday, January 5th. This will be a one day event featuring the premiere episode of the new season with an exclusive early simulcast of the second episode of the new season; which will be screening in over 600 cinemas nationwide.
After the screening, audiences will be treated to a LIVE Q&A with Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole. It will be transmitted from the Paley Center in New York City. Tickets and a list of locations to view the Doctor Who special event will become available beginning Friday, December 6th on the Fathom Events website HERE. Better yet, fans will be able to enjoy Doctor Who the entire week leading up to the premiere with a takeover event featuring our favorite Doctors from David Tennant to Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker, starting Tuesday, December 24th through Wednesday, January 1st.
Courtney Thomasma, the BBC America executive director had this to say about the new season of Doctor Who and it’s premiere date in early 2020:
“What better way to ring in a new decade than with our favorite Time Lord? BBC AMERICA is excited to kick off the New Year with New Who, including a thrilling New Year’s Day premiere followed by new episodes every Sunday this winter. Last year, thousands of Whovians packed Madison Square Garden to celebrate Jodie Whittaker’s landmark debut as the first female Doctor. This year, we’re thrilled to partner with Fathom Events to bring that unique experience to fans all across the country, as Doctor Who embodies the idea of space for all. Let the New Year’s countdown begin!”
