You know it, I know it. We’re all stuck in our houses right now, and there’s literally a pandemic. My words shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone. The world sucks right now.
But TV is supposed to be a respite from it.
Except, when it’s not. Except when it continues to break your heart.
Deadline is reporting that the Party of Five reboot has been cancelled at Freeform, and if we’re being honest, we’re extremely upset. This show got everything right: the relationships, the tone, the diversity and the heart …all while showcasing what it was like to be an immigrant in the US right now.
This is how evil wins. No, really it’s not even hyperbole. When the shows that center a different side of the human experience, the ones that focus on immigrants and minorities, have a higher bar to clear than those who don’t.
We’re far from where we need to be. That much is clear. But, after this news, it almost feels like we’re farther than we’ve ever been.
I’m just going to be in my corner crying a bit, okay? And shaking my head in disappointment. I thought you were better than this, Freeform. I really, really thought you were.
