This week’s episode of 9-1-1, “The One That Got Away” was another tearjerker. I love the crazy, ridiculous rescues the show does, but I like when the show focuses on the personal lives of the 118. This week we got to see more of Buck’s life and how he’s dealing with being single.
At the beginning of “The One That Got Away” Buck breaks through windows and saves woman trapped in her burning apartment. After this rescue he then meets retired firefighter Red. I love that the two quickly formed a friendship, and I love that Buck wanted to help reunite Red with his long-lost love. Even though Buck had good intentions, this plan backfires as Red’s former love has dementia. It was heartbreaking to watch Red realize that he wouldn’t get a second chance with her after all.
Buck understands how Red feels because he knows it’s hard to always be the one left behind. Buck is lonely, and I definitely could relate. At the beginning of the episode he just wants to celebrate with his friends, but they all have other plans. It’s hard always being single and not having people to spend time with. I think this story makes Buck more relatable. Plus, Oliver Stark was wonderful in these scenes.

Buck talks to Maddie about his feelings and brings up Abby. I’m really curious how Abby is going to come back into the picture. I hope Buck does get some closure with her, and, most of all, I hope he finds happiness. He deserves it.
The other story this week was the “Peeping Tom.” This guy actually turned out to be a serial rapist. I can’t believe they released him from custody, but good for Athena for realizing something just wasn’t right. Hopefully they can catch him next week before he hurts anyone else.
Finally, Hen saves the life of the cooking show contestant. I admit, I was worried that she would mess up and kill the guy especially after Chimney begged her not to open him up. I have to wonder, is the show foreshadowing her thinking about going to med school?
Other Thoughts:
- Bobby and Athena really know how to have date night. They definitely impressed me.
- That scooter that the dad and son were on looks so dangerous! I’m guessing that they probably won’t get on that thing again.
I can’t believe there are just two episodes left of the season. I can’t wait to see what happens.
