Charmed is one of my favorite TV shows, and unlike some, this show actually has a satisfactory ending! The show tells the story of three sister witches who come from a long line of Halliwell women – and witches, of course.
Piper and Leo are the literal definition of belligerent sexual tension from their rocky beginning of forbidden love to finding their own happy ending. These are my list of the moments when Piper and Leo became one of my all time favorite OTPS:
1. Piper makes the first move
Leo goes undercover as a handyman to monitor Piper, Prue, and Phoebe. Piper is under the assumption that Leo is human, as he doesn’t tell her that he isn’t until nearly the end of the season. For some time Piper had been infatuated with Leo, and eventually they kiss, but she makes the first move, making Leo very happy.
2. Piper yells at the Elders
Leo and Piper’s journey to matrimony was difficult. The Elders allowing Piper and Leo to date was not easy, from his job as their Whitelighter interfering with their romance to the Elder’s disapproving Piper’s simple wish was to marry the one she loves. At first Piper and Leo hope to have a private wedding, until the Elders take him away from the Charmed Ones. Piper’s incessant yelling at the Elders and pleading to bring him back, force their hand and reunite Leo and Piper.
3. Mojo Switch
Leo gets attacked by a Darklighter, thus resulting in him dying by a poison arrow. The only way to heal Leo is by another Whitelighter. The three sisters were not, at this point, fluent in magic and have no idea what to do. At a loss, and in emotional turmoil, Piper finds a spell to switch her power with Leo’s, however she doesn’t know the trigger. Finally, she admits that she’s in love with him and finally heals him.
4. Leo becomes Mortal
Leo choosing to become mortal is one of his many sacrifices throughout the show. Being a Whitelighter for more than eighty years became a part of who he was. Piper’s reluctance to let Leo sacrifice his powers was one of the hugest plot points of the show. Leo’s selflessness comes through, giving up his powers becomes one of the reasons why this couple is one of my OTPS.
5. Leo Becomes an Elder
When Leo becomes an Elder, he’s no longer a Whitelighter, meaning he can no longer be on earth helping the Charmed Ones. This heartbreaking two-part episode especially broke me, because these two had been through so much for what …to get to a point where Leo has to stay with the Elders, who had been apathetic and unsympathetic since the beginning?
6. Leo and Piper grow old together
While trying to save Paige and Phoebe, Piper and Leo accidently travel back in time to find them, but accidentally end up in the future… their future. The future Leo and Piper are sitting playing Scrabble together, in a room full of toys which are evidently for their grandkids. Piper and Leo have a chance to live a normal life, and having Piper hand the book of Shadows to her granddaughter is a bittersweet moment, bringing the show to a full circle. This assures the viewers that the Elders had chosen not to interfere any longer, leaving the couple with children and grandchildren. Therefore, this puts the viewer’s mind at ease, leaving the show at a satisfying close.
