Good American Family is getting ready to tackle another true story! And, according to Deadline, Hulu found the two actors who will bring it to the screen. Isabela Merced AKA our Dina from The Last of Us and Patrick Schwarzenegger have been cast as Lorena and John Bobbitt. Do you want to know everything? Keep reading!
Good American Family Finds Its Lorena and John Bobbitt
Merced will play Lorena Bobbitt, while Schwarzenegger is set to play her former husband, John. The series will revisit the infamous 1993 incident in which Lorena cut off John’s penis with a kitchen knife following an argument at their home in Virginia. Lorena later spoke about the abuse she experienced during their marriage, while the case became the subject of enormous public attention.
The upcoming limited series doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s revisiting a case that sparked jokes, discussions, and a media frenzy. And there’s plenty to unpack about the way that story was told at the time.
The Bobbitt case quickly became a media sensation, with the coverage often reducing a complicated and disturbing situation to punchlines and sensational headlines. The new installment has the opportunity to look beyond that and examine the people caught up in a story that became bigger than their own lives.
What We Know About Good American Family’s Next Season
The Bobbitt story will be the second installment of Good American Family, following the anthology’s first chapter, which premiered in March 2025. That season explored the adoption story of Natalia Grace Barnett, the Ukrainian orphan whose case attracted widespread attention and raised questions about identity and family.
And the team behind the scenes from the first season is returning! Katie Robbins, who created the series, will once again serve as writer and executive producer. Ellen Pompeo is also back as an executive producer, alongside Laura Holstein, Andrew Stearn, and Sarah Sutherland. The project comes from 20th Television, the studio behind the Season 1.
The first season made a mark, accumulating more than 140 million hours streamed globally across Hulu and Disney+. Its finale was also the most-watched finale across both platforms in 2025, giving the anthology a strong foundation for its next story.
