Saturday Night Live couldn’t be coming back at a better time ahead of the 2020 presidential election, which is where the show really does some of its best work.
Following last Tuesday’s first presidential debate — which was a complete dumpster fire — you have to imagine the SNL writers were absolutely loving how Donald Trump was essentially doing their job for them — writing a script that should be fictional but was the factual behavior by the President of the United States.
Ahead of tonight’s season premiere, Saturday Night Live shared a first look at Jim Carrey as Joe Biden and Maya Rudolph, who reprises her role as Kamala Harris. And, I’m not going to lie, this might be the most excited I’ve been for Saturday Night Live in a long time.
No doubt tonight’s cold open will focus on that dumpster fire that was the presidential debate last week, where Trump interrupted more than a kindergarten student. And, no doubt, it’s going to be freaking hilarious but terrifying at the same time, given Trump’s portrayal in more reality than fiction.
With the presidential election set for Tuesday, Nov. 3, there’s going to be plenty of election goodness on Saturday Night Live for the next month.
