The list of things we didn’t want and yet we’re getting is getting longer, and longer and longer. You can add Showtime’s recently announced Dexter revival to it.
Yes, that’s right, Showtime is bringing back Dexter for a limited series, with Michael C. Hall set to reprise his role at the serial killer.
Clyde Phillips, who was the original showrunner, will be back to helm this revival, which is set to begin production soon, and is looking at a Fall 2021 premiere.
Showtime President Gary Levine had this to say in a statement: “Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago. We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”
This all sounds very well and all, but yeah …we’re not really convinced. The last few seasons of the show were subpar, to say the least, and there are so many new properties that deserve love and attention – we don’t need to go back to what was relevant 10 years ago.
Except the President. We’ll have the President from 10 years ago. Please.
