As we learn more and more news about the upcoming Marvel shows on Disney+, Fangirlish wants to make it easier for fans of the franchise to get up to date on all the things they need to know. This biweekly round-up includes some of the biggest and most fun news from the last week or so about all of our upcoming favorite Marvel shows, like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Solider, and Loki.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Sebastian Stan took to Instagram to celebrate Bucky’s likeness in a McDonald’s toy. Check out more about those toys from our last Marvel on Disney+ News Round-Up. Stan made sure to tag Anthony Mackie in the Instagram story, too. This is a good reminder to pick up your toys while you still can!
Whilst we’re on the topic of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier toys, Hasbro has a very special edition of Cap’s shield available for pre-order now. Though the shield is modeled after Steve Roger’s shield, it is being promoted in association with TFATWS. Just in case you’re looking to gift yourself or someone else this iconic collectible, you should know that the pre-order states the item won’t be available to ship until approximately January 1, 2021. The wait may be worth it, though!
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s cast is slowly becoming less of secret, thanks to casting announcements and an interview with one of the show’s writers Derek Kolstad. The Hollywood Reporter reported that On My Block’s Danny Ramirez is joining the cast as “a pivotal role.” That’s all we know about Ramirez’s character for now, but that means there’s plenty more to learn before the show premieres.

Derek Kolstad appeared on a recent episode of the Script Apart podcast to discuss John Wick, but he ended up teasing TFATWS, too. He discussed his excitement in being given the opportunity to explore secondary characters that are more than deserving of full stories. Kolstad also shared that some early character from the MCU will appear on TFATWS (via Empire). He didn’t share who, because surely Marvel wants to keep that a secret for however long it can. Here’s what Kolstad did say about those returning characters:
“We’re layering them in and reinventing them in a way that’s gonna shift the storytelling structure.”
It sounds like those characters, whoever they may be, are going to play much larger roles in TFATWS than they likely did in the films. The possibilities are endless when it comes to Marvel. This makes us ever more excited to see what TFATWS will pull off come 2021.

In other news, Anthony Mackie has been doing quite a lot of press for his upcoming movie Synchronic, which co-stars Jamie Dornan. Of course The Falcon and the Winter Soldier came up during interviews. For example, Mackie’s obvious chemistry and rapport with Sebastian Stan came up during an interview with Jimmy Fallon. Mackie knew that Sebastian would be a good friend of his when they filmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was Stan’s ability to keep up with Mackie’s jokes and reciprocate just as good jokes that solidified the friendship for Mackie.
Mackie also spoke with Entertainment Tonight and shared some insights from the set of TFATWS. He talked about the intense restrictions that are in place when they’re filming and when the cameras stop rolling. It’s a reminder that the cast and crew’s healthy and safety are the top priorities, like they should be. We can wait a little longer to see Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes suit up again if it means that everyone’s safe during the process.
WandaVision
The last round-up included news about WandaVision merchandise on Amazon. We have some follow-up on that merch. Andy Park, Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development & Concept Artist, shared that he’s the creative genius behind one of the designs for the merchandise.
He expanded on his joy in creating this cartoony picture with a post on Instagram. Here’s some of what he said:
“I won’t give details on specifically why I did this, but you’ve seen the trailer so you’ve seen them in these costumes.”
This time we get to geek out about the super adorable and accurate Funko Pops that Marvel released for pre-order. There are six figures available right now: 50s, 70s, and Halloween Wanda and Vision. They Funkos wear outfits we see the couple in during both the Super Bowl promo and the official trailer. The 50s ones are special because they are monochromatic, just like Wanda and Vision are in the show! 70s Vision is special because that Funko is only available at GameStop.
As for WandaVision casting, it’s officially official that actor and comedian Asif Ali will have some role on WandaVision. Ali shared an optimistic post on his Instagram 4 weeks ago that confirmed he’d be on the show. A Deadline article reporting that Ali joined the cast of Olivia Wilde’s upcoming film Don’t Worry, Darling further confirmed that Ali will soon appear on Disney+’s WandaVision.
There aren’t any details of who Ali will portray on WandaVision just yet. We’ll keep you updated, of course. Funnily enough, Ali did appear on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D years ago. It wouldn’t be shocking for Marvel to make a nod to that character, but it’s less likely that Ali will portray the same character on WandaVision.
Teyonah Parris, who we know will play an adult Monica Rambeau on WandaVision, had an interview with The Undefeated recently. She couldn’t share much about what Monica will be up to on the show. Parris was quick to share how excited she is to play Monica:
“That has been a childhood dream option be a Marvel superhero. I can even remember – I’ve always said that, like, I want to be a superhero. And then when the MCU opened up, I think I was in college. And then it was like, oh, I want to be a Marvel superhero.”
It’s still a mystery as to what role Monica will play in the larger schemes of WandaVision, but it’s hard not to get excited about the possibilities – especially when Teyonah Parris is so passionate about the role and the project.
She-Hulk
Things are getting complicated with She-Hulk. Tatiana Maslany denied reports that she will be Jennifer Walters on She-Hulk in a recent interview with The Sudbury Star. Maslany said:
“That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand. It’s totally not — I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.”
There’s been no word from Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, or anyone else for that matter about whether or not this is true. It’s hard to believe that the reports are false since Mark Ruffalo did congratulate Maslany about scoring the role and so many outlets reported on the casting.
Fans have taken to the Internet to express their suspicions about Maslany’s comments:
We’ll keep a close eye on this news to see if there are any developments in the future. There is a chance that Maslany is our Jennifer Walters but the Marvel powers that be wanted to keep that under wraps for a little while longer. If that’s the case, then Maslany could be trying to play it coy. For now, we have to go with her word. Only time will tell, and luckily Marvel has plenty of time to make a confirmation. She-Hulk isn’t set to premiere until 2022.
