As we learn more and more news about the upcoming Marvel shows on Disney+, Fangirlish wants to make it easier for fans of the franchise to get up to date on all the things they need to know. This biweekly round-up includes some of the biggest and most fun news from the last week or so about all of our upcoming favorite Marvel shows, like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Solider, and Loki.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
There is an indirect The Falcon and the Winter Soldier update that slipped our last round-up that we still want to mention. Sebastian Stan posted a photo on Instagram back in May of him sporting a mask, like we all should, and it looked very familiar. According to Stan’s caption, he agreed. That was the closest thing we got to Stan as Bucky Barnes in quite some time. It’s also a reminder to do one of the most important things we can do to save lives right now: wear a mask. In that sense, we can all be heroes.
In more recent TFATWS news, Emily Van Camp shared a photo on Instagram, letting fans know that she had wrapped on the show. This gives us some hope that production is going smoothly now. We want The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as much as the next person, but the safety of everyone involved is the most important.
Her caption gives us all the feels, because we know there isn’t anyone better to play Sharon Carter. Fans of the iconic character have been demanding more of her in future projects since her introduction during Captain America: The Winter Soldier. We are ready for Sharon Carter to get the respect she deserves.
WandaVision
Though there’s still no official premiere date, Marvel released a run of merchandise for WandaVision on Amazon. Buzz about the items circulated around Twitter on October 4th. More items were added to Marvel’s Amazon store on October 8th. The merchandise coincides with the retro themes shown in the trailer and photos released a few weeks ago.
The fun merchandise suggests that a premiere date may be closer than we think. It’s all speculation at this point, but we wouldn’t be against joining Wanda in her alternate reality sooner rather than later.
Ms. Marvel
Deadline exclusively reported that Marvel found its Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Newcomer Iman Vellani will play the titular role. Kamala Khan is Marvel comics’ first Muslim superhero, and now she will become Marvel Studios’ first Muslim superhero on screen. Not only will Vellani portray Kamala on her own show, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has already confirmed that she would later appear in Marvel films. Fans of the character are surely aware of Kamala’s deep adoration for Captain Marvel. It wouldn’t be out of character for Kamala Khan to show up in a Captain Marvel movie down the line.
That sound you hear is Marvel fans around the world clamoring for all the comics they can get before Ms. Marvel and the films Vellani will appear in come around. The buzz on social media after Vellani’s casting was announced was full of so much love. Kumail Nanjiani, who will appear as Kingo in Marvel Studios’ Eternals (premiering November 5, 2021), expressed his joy about Vellani’s casting.
Vellani herself expressed her excitement about landing the role in an Instagram post. It’s unfortunate that we have to wait until 2022 to see her suit up. However, the wait will be worth it. So, we just want to wish Iman Vellani yet another massive congratulations for landing the role of Kamala Khan. We are lucky to have you as our Ms. Marvel!
Miscellaneous
There’s some news that doesn’t fit under the aforementioned shows but still deserves your attention. Most importantly, Variety exclusively reported that Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury in a new Marvel Disney+ series. The details about this project are just as secretive as Fury’s plans in the Marvel movies. The article doesn’t give fans much to go on beyond the fact that the series is currently in development.
This news is especially fun for fans who await Fury’s appearances in other Marvel films, like Captain Marvel. Jackson’s presence as Nick Fury has been one of the strongest strings holding the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. Fury is a necessary member of the Avengers, and it’s thrilling to think of all the adventures he can get up to on his own show.
It’s also exciting to think about the implications of such a pivotal character having so much time and space to grow and create yet another secret agency, if that were to happen. We’re also keeping our hopes up that Maria Hill will be a part of this show in some way. Though, there’s still plenty of time for Marvel to give us hints at what’s to come.
On a totally different note, McDonalds will soon have a new collection of Marvel Studio toys. It’s a part of a Marvel Studios Heroes campaign, where McDonalds packs a toy of a superhero with every Happy Meal. Some of the heroes getting a cartoonish rendering are Scarlet Witch, the Falcon, the Winter Soldier, and Vision.
Though there are heroes like Black Widow and the Wasp included in this rollout, it doesn’t feel like a coincidence that a lot of these heroes have ties to the Disney+ series. We’ll have to wait and see if any announcements coincide with the toys. Either way, these toys are super adorable and definitely worth taking a look at.
