Some writers have a special gift to make you feel seen. They write characters you can identify with, and even wish to be. Julianna Foxe is one of those writers. Her latest novel Capturing the Cowboy, her second Copper Valley Ranch series, tells the story of Cassie and Jake – and it’s a delight!
There are so MANY things I loved about this book, but let’s start with the heroine. Cassie is a complex character with a super interesting job – love that. She is willing to do what it takes to follow her passion and get the shot and it’s downright admirable. I also love that Callie knows who she and what she wants – even if she is aware that’s not what everyone wants for her.
Cassie had to learn it the hard way, but she knows her value. I’m so glad she is on a path away from her ex-boyfriend.
She meets her match, a man that is also in awe of her passion, in Jake Wilder. I love how he was not what Cassie expected…totally made me squee.
Jake takes running his family’s ranch very seriously. He is the older brother of Charlie, the hero of the first book, Keeping the Cowboy. He feels like it’s his responsibility to keep everything afloat.
I love that this book delves further into the family drama related to ranch touched upon in the first book. I really like that Foxe continued this story plot and that Jake was the one to address this.
Jake’s type A personality and need to keep all the balls in the air is severely hampered by his interest in Cassie. It is delightful! The boy falls hard.
One of the things I enjoyed most in this book, besides the amazing characters and love story – was the glimpse of Arizona. Jake takes Cassie to a small tourist town called Jerome, which I now need to visit! It sounds so AMAZING.
The road trip really showed how Jake respected and understood Cassie’s passion. Seeing Jerome through Cassie’s eyes was wonderful.
But it wasn’t all photo-taking, ranching and visiting of tourist towns – there was some angst, keeping the story interesting 🙂
Both Cassie and Jake do not want to disappoint their families. This is a characteristic I think many can identify with, and it helps to make them so real. I am truly glad they found one another.
This book shows two people going through the highs and lows of life and love and you can’t help but cheer with joy when Cassie and Jake get the happily ever after they so rightly deserve. Capturing the Cowboy turned out to be the perfect name for this book!
