Peacock faced a big controversy today and they deserved the backlash that they got. What is it over?
In episode 6 of Saved by the Bell, two Bayside students get their phones taken away and we see them speculate on Selena Gomez’s kidney donor.
“I know for a fact that Selena Gomez’s kidney donor was Justin Bieber’s mom. God, I wish that I had my phone so that I could prove it,” one student says.
“Prove what? That you’re an idiot?” the other replies. “
It was Demi Lovato’s kidney. They’re best friends, like you and I were.”
Neither one of the cast members is part of the main cast. But, the entire conversation was highly insensitive to Selena’s health, which she has been very open about.
“Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney” is written on the walls of the locker room.
a tv show called "saved by the bell" has "does selena gomez even have a kidney?" written on the wall. this is so disgusting and unnecessary. selena doesn't deserve this.

Saved by the Bell, that's disgusting. Selena almost lost her life, jokes about her kidney transplant is NOT FUNNY. Respect Selena Gomez. pic.twitter.com/c8AZbsU1m0

It’s not funny to make jokes about someone else’s illness, she's been through a lot and she deserves better treatment.

Peacock, NBCUniversal and the show’s executive producers apologized for the references in a statement to the outlet Variety. Selena Gomez has not commented on the situation.
“We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC,” the statement read.
We hope that all shows, showrunners, and studios take note. Be respectful.
