I miss the Marvel Cinematic Universe so much. I miss Captain America more than I ever thought I could miss a fictional character, especially as America goes through these trying times. Just as I get a little sad about it, I remember what has been pretty much promised to us fans. Anthony Mackie will be the next Captain America.
Don’t come for me just yet. I am a Chris Evans as Cap fan; I might go so far as to say a super fan, but this ain’t about him. Chris gets more than enough love. This is for Mr. Mackie. The Julliard graduating, Broadway acting native from New Orleans. This is for him because with all he has accomplished and all he has coming his way, I just think he deserves more. And so he’ll get it here.
Let’s look at a few of my favorite Anthony Mackie roles. I’ll try to be polished in my praise and stick to the work, but I do have to say this one is quite the looker.
Black Mirror: Striking Vipers
Ok, so the GIF doesn’t quite tell us what this episode is really about, but who cares? In Black Mirror: Striking Vipers, Mackie’s character is happily married (He’s role playing with his wife at the bar here, sexy as hell!) until he reconnects with a college buddy and they start having virtual reality sex as video game street fighters. He loves his wife but loves the thrill of the virtual sex, so what’s a guy gonna do? It’s pretty twisted, but Mackie kills it! It’s a must see, if you haven’t checked it out.
The Adjustment Bureau
If nothing else, Anthony Mackie wears the hell out a suit and hat in this one. Just joking. The Adjustment Bureau is an entertaining ride about life and the choices we have to make. Or do we? Mackie plays a member of the Bureau who isn’t so sure about forcing people to make life choices that could alter their trajectory forever. So what does he do? Well, I won’t spoil it for you. Support our boy by watching to find out.
Eight Mile
What great actor hasn’t stepped into the villain role? Mackie’s Papa Doc is not someone you wanna root for, but you can’t deny that hating him feels just as good as loving him, in this 2002 throw back. The ups and downs of friendship and the rap battles make this a classic Anthony Mackie movie to see.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Nothing to see here except one of the greatest movies in THE entire world. The Winter Soldier has it all. Action, chemistry, best friends, and of course the MCU debut of Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson AKA The Falcon. Though he doesn’t coin the phrase or utter it in this particular movie, “on your left” is synonymous with the loyal and brave Sam Wilson.
Mackie takes this character by storm and implants him straight into our hearts. I won’t even insult you by saying you have to see this if you haven’t. I’ll just say watch it again and again.
So there you have it. My favorite Anthony Mackie movies all buttoned up. But, I can’t let you leave without previewing what he has next. No words. Just GIFs
What I’ve listed isn’t even a fraction of all the work he has done. Anthony Mackie is talented and versatile with the credits to prove it. If you’re a fan or just curious about other things he’s done on the screen, check out this list. Oh, and if you’re worried about the title of America’s Ass being passed on, I can promise you it’s in the right hands.
