This week was not easy for most of our favorite 9-1-1: Lone Star characters. In “Difficult Conversations” Judd keeps some disappointing news from Grace, Owen and Gwyn focus on their future, and Mateo gets an unfortunate tattoo.
Let’s start with Judd and Grace. At the beginning of 9-1-1: Lone Star: “Difficult Conversations” the 126 gets called to help a man having a heart attack. Judd instantly knows it’s not a heart attack, and they need to check his insulin. How does he know this? The man is Grace’s dad. And the woman he’s wife is not Grace’s mom. Yikes.
Of course Judd’s conflicted about whether to tell Grace about her dad cheating. He doesn’t want to lie to her, but he knows this news will hurt her. But before he can tell her, she figures it out. It was heartbreaking watching Grace learn that her dad isn’t the man she thought he was. We hope this doesn’t come between Grace and Judd, and that she’s able to talk about it in the future.

We also want to mention how amazing Grace was during the 9-1-1 call. She realized right away the woman was in danger despite her pretending to order a pizza. Grace was able to keep her on the line and dispatch the police to her apartment. She was able to jump to safety, and the Carlos and the police took the abusive boyfriend into custody. We love that Grace always pays attention to the situation and can figure out what’s happening despite what people are saying.
Last week we learned that Gwyn’s pregnant, and unfortunately, this comes with some risks because of her age. Gwyn has to decide if she wants to continue this pregnancy even though her life could be in danger. Ultimately, Gwyn and Owen both want to have this baby. We like they listened to the doctor though and aren’t going into this lightly. But we’re excited. Especially if this means Lisa Edelstein will be sticking around.

We can’t end this review without mentioning Mateo and his misspelled tattoo. Since he has dyslexia, he didn’t realize that instead of getting “Guardian Angel” on his back, he ended up with “Guardian Angle”. TK and Paul don’t have heart to tell him so they enlist Marjan to break the news to him before he posts it online. He’s upset, but Marjan explains that TK and Paul care about him so much they didn’t want to hurt his feelings.
Luckily, Marjan is a bad-ass, and she’s pretty angry that the guys at the tattoo shop laughed at Mateo and didn’t correct the spelling. She makes them fix it, and he ends up with a much better tattoo. And he’s going to go back once it heals and get it touched up. We love that Marjan was there for Mateo and that this group cares about each other so much. With them sticking together, they can solve almost anything.
Agree? Disagree? What did you think about “Difficult Conversations”?
