All of our couples had issues on this week’s 9-1-1: Lone Star 2×04 “Friends with Benefits” (well, except Grace and Judd. Because they’re Grace and Judd). In “Friends with Benefits” Carlos and TK fight, Marjan’s no longer engaged, and Gwyneth wants Owen to define their relationship. Plus, we see a side of Grace that we were not expecting.
The Red Wedding

Before we dive into the relationship drama on “Friends with Benefits,” let’s talk about the wedding. What a nightmare! Can you imagine having everyone throwing up at your wedding and then the temp collapsing on your guests and the groom! Then we find out that the bride is pregnant, and the best man is the father! We don’t see this marriage lasting very much longer. The 9-1-1 caller was right: this was worse than the red wedding!
50 Shades of Grace

The other rescue in “Friends with Benefits” was a 9-1-1 call in which Grace to had save a woman who was having an allergic reaction to bees. The problem? This women was the “mistress” and the only person in the room, Imp, was tied up. Grace told him he would need to dislocate his shoulder so he could get the EpiPen and save Mistress, but he didn’t like that idea. So Grace humiliates him, and gets him to do what she ordered.
Everyone at the 9-1-1 call center listened to Grace as she ordered Imp around. It was so funny, but also very impressive. She always knows exactly what to do in order to save lives. Also, we’re not going to judge Imp for how he lives his life, but can he make sure that his mistress isn’t allergic to bees next time?
Relationship Drama

Now, back to the relationship drama on “Friends with Benefits”. First, we learn that Marjan is engaged. Um, what? She’s been engaged since she was 12. It’s clear Marjan isn’t ready to leave Texas yet, and her fiancé breaks things off with her since there’s another woman and he knows Marjan isn’t in love with him. While she does realize later she is in love, she knows it can’t work. We’re proud of Marjan for not wanting to hurt the other woman’s feelings. She did the right thing. We’re so relieved she’s not moving to Miami, and Paul and Mateo are, too.
Carlos and TK probably had their biggest fight yet. Carlos doesn’t tell his parents that TK is his boyfriend because, while he’s out, his sexuality is not something he talks about with them. We get why TK was upset, and we think Carlos needs to figure out how to fix this. We adore TK and Carlos and would hate for them to break up.
Finally, Gwyn and Owen. We don’t blame Gwyn for wanting to define their relationship. Judd was right: she was the one who left everything to come to Texas, and she needs to know if it was worth it. (Also, it’s so cute that Judd always wants to talk about Grace). At the end of the episode, Gwyn reveals she’s pregnant. That was unexpected! We were really hoping for a Grace and Judd baby so we’re not really sure how to feel about this news. How will TK react? We definitely think he’ll have some thoughts!

9-1-1: Lone Star airs Mondays at 9/8c on FOX.
I don’t think Carlos’s problem is something he can just fix. His parents aren’t fully accepting of his sexuality and have made him feel uncomfortable being himself around them, and feel unsafe about introducing his boyfriend. It’s not up to Carlos to fix that, it’s his parents. TKs initial reaction of anger was disappointing, could he really not understand that as a gay Latino in Texas that Carlos’s experiences would be different to his? I’m glad he was more supportive by the end and told Carlos he’d wait until he was ready.
That’s a good point. I know it must be hard for Carlos because he loves his parents and wants them to accept him. I think part of TK’s anger was that he was caught off guard by Carlos not introducing him as his boyfriend. But, I know that Carlos was surprised to see his parents, and probably didn’t know what to do.
I’m glad they had that talk at the end, too. I just like them together, and I don’t want them to break up.
