The Best Man, written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee, has always been one of my absolute favorite films. Being a woman of color, it was one of the first times I can honestly say I saw Black people leading successful lives on film. Everyone was college educated, doing very well for themselves, and they all had an amazing friendship. No negative stereotypes whatsoever. Since the second film The Best Man Holiday was released back in 2013 and left us with a little cliffhanger of sorts, I have been waiting for more.

For years there were rumors that another film was coming so I am beyond excited to hear that we are finally getting a new installment, and this time it’s going to be done as a series.
The dramedy titled The Best Man: The Final Chapters, is headed to the streaming service Peacock with a total of 10-episodes ordered. The series is written and executive produced by Malcolm D. Lee via his Blackmaled Productions and Dayna Lynne North of Loud Sis Productions.
All of the original cast members Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Terrence Howard, Melissa De Sousa, Sanaa Lathan, Regina Hall, and Harold Perrineau have signed on for the series and believe me when I say this cast is amazing. The only one missing is Monica Calhoun. If you have seen The Best Man Holiday, you know why.

According to Deadline, The Best Man: The Final Chapters will catch up with Harper, (Diggs), Robyn (Lathan), Jordan (Long), Lance (Chestnut), Quentin (Howard), Shelby (De Sousa), Candace (Hall), and Murch (Perrineau) as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.
Past grievances resurface? Yikes. I hope it’s not going to be more drama that messes up Harper and Lances friendship, because that never ends well. I am beyond excited for this series and I will be counting down the days and watching for all the news. Seriously, I highly recommend giving The Best Man films a watch because they are so good, plus, it will give you something to do while we wait for the new series.

Does this series sound like one you plan to check out? Are you planning on watching the movies first? Tell us your thoughts.
