9-1-1 always knows how to use humor to lighten the mood, but 9-1-1 4×06 “Jinx” was one of the funniest episodes the show has ever had. The 118 experience one of the busiest shifts ever while they argue over whether curses are real.
At the beginning of “Jinx”, a probie mentions that it has been “quiet.” Chim, Buck, and Hen panic because quiet, or the “q word” is not something you mention at a firehouse! And then the alarm bells go off starting the beginning of the cursed, and pretty weird, shift.
The first call was to a guy who had duct taped himself to a billboard. He refused to come down because he paid for the entire day. Buck asks if he’s wearing anything under the duct tape. He isn’t. “You may regret that later,” Buck jokes. And a little while later, the duct tape peels off the billboard and he falls, but he lands safely thanks to the 118. Before anyone can wrap a coat around him, the crowd manages to take some photos of this guy.
We agree with Athena: he’s definitely going to be famous now.

The calls just kept getting weirder throughout the episode. The 118 had to rescue a woman that had an octopus fall on her head at work, they helped some clowns, and saved a woman who had a lion costume stuck on her head. Even after all this, Eddie’s not convinced of a curse or jinx. They just think they’ve had a bad day.
Bobby tells him that he doesn’t have to believe in curses, but just don’t tempt fate. So what happens then? A telephone pole falls on their truck.
We couldn’t help but laugh at the look Chim gave Eddie after this happened. And we couldn’t stop laughing at the conversation which took place while they were waiting for help. They debate curses and jinxes, and they ask Bobby’s opinion. He avoids answering the question, and luckily, he doesn’t have to elaborate since they’re rescued by another fire station.
Of course, the other firefighters have to snap some pictures before helping the 118.

This episode gets even weirder when they’re called to a house fire, and they figure out that one of the guys working isn’t a real firefighter. They locate him, but he then steals the 118’s truck. Athena and other police chase after him. This was an intense chase as this guy refused to give up even after taking out some cars. Athena is finally able to arrest him after he arrives at a fire. We were really impressed by how Eddie talked to him and figured out that this guy just wanted to help. But he should have figured out a better way then impersonating a firefighter.
The shift finally ends, and Bobby takes the team out for breakfast. And with their luck, they have to help save a life at the restaurant before they’re even able to enjoy their food. We would say we hope next week is a little calmer, but we loved the craziness of this episode. The humor was a great escape from real life
Other Thoughts:
- We loved the flashback of Buck when he used the “q” word, and they had 36 calls in one shift.
- It was so funny when the fireworks started shooting out of the guy’s house which was on fire. He had said he only had Christmas decorations and old files in there. Bobby asked what else he had in his house because it seemed like his taxes were a lot more exciting than his.
- We’re very intrigued by Eddie and Hannah. We want to see more of their relationship in the next couple of weeks.
Favorite Quotes:
Eddie: “Have you ever replayed a conversation in your head where you sound like an idiot?” Buck: “Have you met me?”
Hen: “You never hear anyone say wham bam thank you sir.” Buck: “It doesn’t rhyme.”
Chim: “Hey Cap. Did a live power pole just fall on the engine?”
Buck: “They had to steal the engine. They couldn’t have taken the ambulance instead.” Hen: “Bite your tongue.”
