As we wake up on yet another day where the British media – at the direction of Royal aides, which is another can of worms – comes for the Duchess of Sussex, we once again have to ask ourselves: Where was this energy when Prince Andrew was accused of sexually abusing Virginia Roberts Giuffre? Where was this energy as Prince Andrew defended his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein?
Where?
The new reports about Meghan also come out, coincidentally, I’m sure, days before Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah is set to come out. From stories about how she faced a bullying complaint in 2018 (stuff I guess they were investigating till now and that’s why they couldn’t report, you know, at the time?) to reports that she used jewelry given to her by MBS (this amazing Twitter thread breaks that down, and puts everything into context), Meghan is suddenly everywhere.
Prince Andrew, meanwhile, you know, the alleged sexual abuser, is still in hiding, and has his family’s full support.
I was a little too young to see this for what it was when “negative” information started being leaked against Diana, back in the day. I recognized a pattern when the same thing happened with Sarah Ferguson, but back then I still didn’t truly understand how insidious this was, and how far back it went, much less who was likely calling the shots.
To this day I’m sure I can’t even imagine, but now I at least recognize the gaslighting and the pattern.
And I, for one, am really glad to see Meghan and Harry got out while they could.
Now, I don’t know what Meghan and Harry said in that Oprah interview, but thank you Royal Family, now I’m even MORE interested in finding out.
Burn it all down. It’s way past time.
