We are officially one week away from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s premiere on Disney+! The show’s stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan celebrated the fact the only way they know how — by joking with each other through an Instagram swap. It’s a fitting start, especially for these two, of what’s sure to be a jam-packed week of promotion.
Mackie took to Stan’s Instagram first to continue a long-running joke about how much Mackie loves Stan’s couch. Anthony Mackie spoke about this couch back in 2019 during a WIRED Autocomplete Interview. Stan later said that Mackie had, in fact, never been to Stan’s house — let alone seen his couch. Mackie finishes his Instagram story by saying, “Let Sebastian know I’m back on his couch.” The joke lives on!
Anyway, Mackie shared a scene that adds more context to the Strong TV spot we got a few days ago. In the clip, Sam Wilson clearly has a hunch that something is up and wants to follow Red Wing to the truth. Bucky Barnes is more apprehensive about what it could all mean and wants to join Sam on the trip. They’re clearly not working like a unit yet, because that’s going to take time.
The best part is the humor that is already present in this short clip. Sam and Bucky are already bickering like they used to about the Big 3 — androids, aliens, and wizards. Bucky, once again, is resistant to the idea that this could be true and brings up the hilarity of them fighting someone like the Gandalf from The Hobbit next. You all, Bucky says that he read The Hobbit when it first came out in 1937! We love The Falcon and the Winter Soldier so much already!
The next clip came from Stan on Mackie’s Instagram. Stan followed through on exactly what Mackie thought he would. Stan says that Mackie doesn’t know how to use Instagram so Stan had to take matters into his own hands. It’s so good and wonderful and totally planned, but that doesn’t take away any of its charm.
It’s hard to tell when this clip takes place, but context clues suggest its right after the previous one. Sam and Bucky were headed towards a plan in the last clip and now they’re on one. The tension is still very much there. The character on the plane (played by On My Block‘s Danny Ramirez) is pointing Sam in the right direction but not interacting with Bucky that much. This suggests this is a character Sam either knows or trusts, but Bucky is new to that scene.
Bucky and Sam continue their possibly season-long staring content in the clip. It is telling that Bucky is watching Sam’s moves very carefully and vice versa. These two don’t trust each other fully yet. That cuts through even more when Bucky tells Sam that he can’t call him “Buck.” Steve was the one who called him that — Steve and Bucky’s history and trust contributed that nickname. Sam and Bucky aren’t there yet. But that’s what The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is all about, right? Only one more week until we get to see where Sam, Bucky, and their dynamic go next.
