The story of Cruel Summer begins in a small town, Skylin, with the disappearance of Kate, a really popular teenager. Her dark fate makes the future of another teenager, the cute nerdy girl, shine. At least for a while, because, as everyone knows, the higher you go … the bigger the fall. And that nerdy girl, turned popular, falls headlong and becomes the most hated woman in America.
But why?
Well, this is the premise of the whole show and it’s really interesting, right? The show tells us the story over three summers that marked all the characters. In those three summers you find all the answers. In principle, Cruel Summer has a premise that we have seen in some teenage series, but this show has a different spark.
The fact that the story is divided into three summers makes you really understand how we got there. To what we are seeing in the present. This gives the characters a lot of depth and we get to know them, we begin to connect with them and understand them, but not only that, but also to put ourselves in their shoes.
One of the best things about this show is that we can identify with all the characters, feel really strong things for them – good and bad – and, even if we don’t exactly agree with their decisions, we can come to understand them. You know, who didn’t dream of becoming the most popular girl? Who has no secrets? But almost is the key here. Because secrets are not easy to understand, right?
If there is something in this show, its secrets. The mystery surrounding Kate’s disappearance is something that all the inhabitants of Skylin must deal with in their own way, but at the same time, that mystery causes everyone to try to maintain their facade while safeguarding their own secrets. Because Skylin seems like a united city but … it’s not. Nothing is what it seems.
At the end of the day, what unites them are two horrible and dark situations like the disappearance of Kate and the hatred that everyone feels towards that cute nerd. They are not the best reasons and less so when they should try to keep up appearances. Will they do it?
Although, in reality, the real question here is: why?
To find out, you must watch Cruel Summer. Trust us, you are going to love it and it will keep you hooked from second one, because there is something that catches you in this story and you just want to know more.
You just want to know all the reasons, all the whys, and how we got there. And the answer, goodness, the answer is worth it because it brings many more secrets and questions … that you are going to die to know. Little by little, this show catches you and, without realizing it, you can no longer stop watching the episode and you will die to know more.
Cruel Summer is the kind of show that you want to watch until the end and waiting a week for a new episode feels like a little torture. Theories will fly through your head and you will not know who is lying or why until the end.
