No joke, I am sitting on my bed crying my eyes out. The Summer I Turned Pretty is my favorite book series ever. I buy a new set every year and go through them and leave notes. It’s kind of interesting, cause every year is something different.
But these books have had a profound effect on my life.
I am so excited that it’s going to be a series and that Amazon Studios has started announcing the cast. Newcomer Lola Tung is set as the lead in The Summer I Turned Pretty, with Rachel Blanchard, Jackie Chung and Christopher Briney also are set as series regulars in the 8 episode series.
I could literally scream, I am so excited.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is such an amazing story of a girl in love and the love triangle she is in is with two brothers. But it’s also a tale of generations, friendships, growth, pain, and the power of power of strong female friendships. It’s a coming of age story about that one perfect summer.
It’s one of the best books I have ever read. And if you know me, I hate everything so that is saying a lot.
Tung will play Belly, who has always been awkward, but the year that she turns 16, everything starts to change. Heads are turning and people are noticing her. And Belly is coming in to her own skin.
Briney will play Conrad, the boy that she’s loved forever who is finally starting to take notice. It’s a time in Belly’s life that is both exciting and scary, and Conrad is a big part of that. He’s an athlete and responsible and serious and when he gets to the families beach house, he is moody and distant. He won’t say why, but that is part of his intrigue (in my opinion).
Belly’s Mom, Laurel will be played by Chung. She’s a novelist who is recently divorced and it’s been hard on her – leaving her scattered and unfocused. Blanchard, plays her best friend Susannah who hosts the families every summer in her beach house.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is an adaptation of Jenny Han‘s book and will air on Amazon Prime. We’re looking forward to more information about casting.
