The USA women’s gymnastics team won an Olympic silver medal in the team final on Tuesday. We are so proud of all of these women, and they should be celebrated!
Unless you don’t have internet access or just don’t care about the Olympics at all, then you know that Simone Biles chose to take herself out of the team competition. This has been covered by every media outlet in America. However, what the media hasn’t focused on is what these girls accomplished. So we want to fix that at Fangirlish.
Suni Lee, Grace McCallum, and Jordan Chiles. They completely stepped up to the plate on Tuesday! Suni is a beast on bars and gave a performance of a lifetime. Jordan had 30 seconds to warm up on bars and dominated on that and beam. Could you imagine the pressure she was under, especially after falling during the qualifying rounds? And Grace. We love Grace. She’s always there to support and comfort her teammates, and she gave solid performances on every event.
We definitely respect Simone Biles’ decision. She didn’t think she could compete. She was thinking about her team and didn’t want to do something that could cost her teammates a medal. Also, mental health is extremely important, and we hope Simone is focusing on her health right now.
The media has focused on Simone Biles for years. Yes, she is the greatest of all time, and she should be proud of everything she’s done. But the women’s gymnastics team finals was a TEAM event. Suni, Grace, and Jordan stepped up, and we should be celebrating what they accomplished. We should be proud of their silver medal!
We’ll also be cheering Suni and Jade Carey on in the women’s All-Around final on Thursday, and we’ll be sending good thoughts to Simone. We hope she’s taking care of herself. Suni could possibly win the All-Around as she has one of, if not THE best, bars routines in the world. And don’t count Jade out, either. Her vault is second only to Simone and her floor routine is inspirational. She earned her spot in the Olympics.
Go TEAM USA!
