I do respect the fact that Priyanka Chopra spoke up about The Activist, but I do wish that it had been sooner. I know, I know – we can’t expect people to answer things on our time. They are all entitled to their time.
The Activist, well the basics of the show, “six inspiring activists teamed with three high profile public figures working together to bring meaningful change to one of three vitally important world causes: health, education, and environment. Activists go head-to-head in challenges to promote their causes, with their success measured via online engagement, social metrics, and hosts’ input.”
Julianne Hough had spoken out about the backlash, saying that after the announcement, “The last few days have been a powerful demonstration of real-time activism. Thank you for using your voices, calling me in, your accountability. and your candor. I am deeply listening with an open heart and mind.”
“I heard you say that there was hypocrisy in the show because at the root of activism is a fight against capitalism and the trauma that it causes so many people and that the show itself felt like a shiny capitalistic endeavor,” Hough had continued.
The backlash made the direction of the show change, which we are thankful for. It is now going to be a documentary, which is better, but in all honesty, it feels a little late for that and the show is tainted.
However, it is good that it is going in a better direction. And Hough‘s co-host Chopra spoke up about the show.
“I have been moved by the power of your voices over the past week,” Chopra wrote in a statement posted to her social media channels. “At its core, Activism is fueled by cause and effect, and when people come together to raise their voice about something, there is always an effect. You were heard. The show got it wrong, and I’m sorry that my participation in it disappointed many of you.”
But where it went wrong for me, was she tried to explain the shows original intent. I think we all got the original intent, but it wasn’t right. She said that it was, “to bring attention to the people behind the ideas and highlight the actions and impact of the causes they support tirelessly. I’m happy to know that in this new format, their stories will be the highlight, and I’m proud to collaborate with partners who have their ear to the ground and know when it’s time to hit pause and re-evaluate.”

Look, I love Priyanka Chopra, and I do know that her out of most has the best of intentions and has devoted her life to making the world a better place.
Hopefully Hollywood can learn from this entire experience.
