We don’t know about you all, but we were glued to our television for the entire hour of this 9-1-1. “Desperate Measures” focused on finding Harry and getting rid of Jeffrey Hudson for good.
This episode briefly recapped how Hudson escaped and murdered his lawyer. (You mean a fugitive would turn on the person who helped him? Who would have thought!) Anyway, we see him go to Athena’s house and then kidnap Harry. Harry calls Athena, but Hudson takes over the call and taunts Athena. He says she took something from him so now he’s going to take something from her.
Both May and Bobby want to help search for Harry, but Athena makes May stay at the call center to keep her safe, and she sends Bobby back to work. She says it’s because the city needs all the heroes it can get, which may be true, but she has another plan. We loved that Michael knew she had something up her sleeve. They may not be married anymore, but they still have a connection.
Searching for Harry
While Athena and Michael take off in search for their son in “Desperate Measures,” Harry manages to escape from the trunk of his car. Unfortunately, Hudson finds him, but Harry grabs the attention of a woman nearby before he’s put back in the car. He screams that he’s being kidnapped. Hudson claims he’s a cop and shows his badge, but the lady has a feeling something is off.
Luckily, this woman trusted her instincts and uploaded the video. (Ladies, you should always trust your instincts!) May sees it and alerts her parents who take a visit to her house. Then Athena takes off on her own to track down Hudson in the autonomous, police free zone. At the entrance, Athena says she needs protection from a cop and shows the video of Hudson showing his badge and pretending to be a cop. This was genius! We always want Athena on our side.
With the help of the crowd and the 118, she gets to Jeffrey. And even though she killed him (which he totally deserved but made finding her son even harder), they locate Harry just in time. Hudson sealed him in a wall! We’re so relieved that Harry’s safe. He’s a fighter, and obviously takes after his mom! And we’re glad we never have to see Jeffrey Hudson ever again.
Shocking Ending
At the end of 9-1-1 “Desperate Measures” everything looks to be going back to normal as the power comes back on and this shift finally ends for the 118. But this episode ends with a huge shocker: Maddie has left town. She dropped off the baby at the firehouse and tells Chim she can’t take care of her anymore.
Wow. We knew Maddie was struggling, but we definitely didn’t expect this. We hope she’s going to get help for her depression, but she’s coming back, right? Maddie can’t leave! And poor Chim. He’s definitely going to need the help of Buck, Hen, and Athena to raise his daughter and deal with Maddie leaving.
We’re also wondering how Buck is going to handle this. Maddie is the person he’s closest too. Will he feel like she abandoned him, too?
Other Thoughts:
- We agree with Michael that cutting off Hudson’s “magic wand” was poetic justice. He definitely deserved it.
- Buck could tell something was off with Bobby at the police-free zone. This shows how close Buck has become to Bobby and how well the 118 can read each other.
- We felt so bad for Ana when Eddie told her how he felt, but we’re proud of him for not leading her on. But we hope Chris is okay. We know how much Ana means to him.
- Will Harry have any negative affects from being kidnapped? Will he need therapy? We know Michael and Athena will be keeping a close eye on him.
