9-1-1 is finally back after the summer hiatus, and we couldn’t be happier. The season premiere, “Panic” was intense and a ridiculously exciting hour of television. But we would expect nothing less from this show.
We knew right away we were in for an interesting episode when the 118 ran into an elephant, camels, and a giraffe on an otherwise abandoned street of L.A. It turns out that this scene happened a week after the events in this episode. Guess we’ll get to the animals next week?
This episode, “Panic”, focuses on the call center being overwhelmed by cell phones calling 9-1-1. That’s right: cell phones calling 9-1-1, not the owners of the phone. To make things even weirder, a bunch of car GPS systems are leading the cars into water. We saw first hand how Kirby drove straight into the water because her GPS told her to turn left.
A few thoughts here: 1.) May was amazing in helping Kirby and giving her advice when her car was sinking; 2.) Buck and Eddie can rescue us from the water any time they want; and 3.) Maybe not turn left just because your car tells you to?
“I Don’t Panic”
After rescuing Kirby from her car in 9-1-1 5×01 “Panic” Eddie goes shopping with Christopher and Ana. At first this is cute, and we’ll never say no to more scenes with Eddie and Chris, but it quickly turns as Eddie has a panic attack. At the hospital he’s told that it could be from being shot. While Eddie reassures everyone he’s fine, we’re still worried. And we don’t like how he just dismissed Buck’s questions later in the episode. Not letting your friends help never turns out well.
Eddie’s not the only one dealing with panic attacks this week. The air traffic control center believes a plane is coming right towards them after their system goes down. After realizing everything is okay, the employees start dropping like flies. We don’t blame them as having a near death experience (or at least thinking it was a near death experience) and having your system hacked would cause us to have a panic attack, too.
Hudson Returns
While the city debates if they’re under a cyber attack or not, in 9-1-1 5×01 “Panic” Athena must face her attacker from two seasons ago, Jeffrey Hudson, at trial. We had forgotten how creepy this guy is. Unfortunately, after some misunderstandings at the courthouse (caused by more technology malfunctions), Hudson escapes.
Athena and Detective Ransome search for Hudson, and the Detective finds him with the help of Hudson’s former attorney. Ransome calls Athena and tells her the good news. They think everything is over and they’re out of danger, but unfortunately it’s not that easy. Hudson’s former attorney slashes Ransome’s throat. Yep, it looks like she was working with Hudson all along.
Our question is why? Why does she want to help him? Is she part of Hudson’s fan club, too? And can we just say that it’s super creepy that he has a group of women that worship him?
Guess we’ll find out more about Hudson’s lawyer and her motives next week. Hopefully Athena can finally put this guy away for good. And we certainly hope Buck, Eddie, and the rest of the 118 can rescue the helicopter that is handing on by a thread.
