‘Legacies’ 4×01 Photos: “You Have to Pick One This Time”

It’s premiere week! Legacies 4×01, “You Have to Pick One This Time,” picks up right where Season 3 left off with the Super Squad facing some tough choices. Never has the possibility of ending Malivore been closer, but it doesn’t make the difficult decisions ahead any easier. Of course, feelings are involved because that’s never out of the equation for this found family.

The Super Squad walks the fine line between life and death for a few members now that killing Malivore could mean killing Landon and Hope dying to activate her full tribrid abilities. It looks like everyone will take a stab at getting through to Landon, but Malivore is likely more than willing to play whatever game need be to make it out of that cage.

We know that Omono Okojie is a series regular this season. Whether Cleo makes it out of Malivore’s darkness or not, it’s a safe bet that Legacies will follow her journey there. That story allows Legacies to delve deeper into the darker themes of the season by revisiting Cleo’s trauma with Malivore. Being in his darkness after trying so hard to be rid of him must be triggering for her.

The trailer teases all of the darker twists and turns awaiting the Super Squad and us. However, Legacies‘ tone makes it possible for the show to balance darker themes with moments of levity. That levity can come from the humor the show has succeeded at dropping into scenes. It can also come from calmer moments with the characters that let them breathe.

For example, with “You Have to Pick One This Time” (which is probably said by Mali!Landon), that levity could come with Finch and Josie’s date. Those two made it out of last season stronger than they started by valuing honesty. So no matter what Josie is not ready to talk about, I hope that Finsie will get through it together whenever Josie is prepared.

The Super Squad is always stronger together, and Finch is a part of that now. She’s with this crew of misfits and heroes and badasses. Malivore may think that he’s got this fight in the bag, but there’s no way he’s prepared for the Super Squad at their best. He can try to break them by throwing new monsters in their path, but that’s never stopped them before.

SEASON PREMIERE – After learning that Malivore has taken over Landon’s body, Hope and the Super Squad come up with a risky plan to rescue Landon, as well as Cleo, who has been absorbed into Malivore’s darkness.
