Locke & Key‘s 2×09 “Alpha & Omega” really had us crying over here and taking us in unexpected directions to the point where we don’t even need a lengthy intro. Let’s just dive into it!
First up, Tyler and Jackie. Everything was going so good and we had so much hope. Tyler was putting all his love for Jackie into the creation of that key. She was his intention. Her happiness, her safety, and his love for her were at the core of it all. Seriously, he even has visions of her as he’s creating the key. That’s true love and the kind that we want to see last for seasons on Locke & Key.
Unfortunately, that can’t happen anymore because Jackie is dead. Whatever Dodge did to Jackie…he poisoned her very being and destroyed her from the inside out. And it sucks to know that no matter what Tyler did, she was always going to die after being saved. It’s nice that she was returned to her former self. That matters. Saying sorry and exchanging “I love you” matters. But now she’s gone and we’re hurting for Tyler.
We’re also hurting for Jackie herself. She was such a vibrant, kind, and intelligent young woman. And sure, she chose to forget the magic that they had all experienced together. But she chose Tyler and a future with him. And that was all rudely snatched away by someone who just causes destruction, mayhem, and pain wherever they go. Jackie deserved better and she deserved a moment to kick Gabe’s ass for what he’s done.

Which…Gabe/Dodge continues to prove that there are no boundaries to the cruelty they can bestow upon the world. Dodge really fancies herself as Gabe. Believes in her hollow heart that she is this young man and that she loves Kinsey. She doesn’t love Kinsey. She’s obsessed with her and fell for her own delusions. That isn’t healthy and threatening to kill Kinsey’s mom is not the way to get to the girl’s heart.
Watching Kinsey struggle with the decision of what to do broke our hearts but also made us really really angry for Kinsey. She’s a young woman like Jackie with her whole life ahead of her and Dodge thinks she can manipulate her into losing herself for him? We don’t think so. And we can’t wait until Kinsey kicks Dodge’s ass and shows her that she isn’t Gabe. She’s just a cruel demon who fancies herself more than that.
And that’s why we’re hella worried for Nina. Right now she’s in the unfair position of being a pawn in everything happening around her or just unaware of what is happening around her. With one episode left of season 2 of Locke & Key we’re not sure she’s going to remember or if there will be enough time to process the ramifications of it all. We don’t want to speculate too much because we’ll be in this review for “Alpha & Omega” for 5 years.

But what we can say is that we’re excited to see how everything is going to turn out. Yes, we’re nervous because the Locke & Key season 2 finale is titled “Cliffhanger.” But pieces are finally converging and coming together in a way that feels like something big is coming. Something so huge that will change all of their lives and make it so the name of the game has changed by leaps and bounds. We just don’t know how yet.
There’s no doubt in our minds though that it has to do with Ellie though. Her appearance at the end of “Alpha & Omega” left us shocked! We knew that something else was going to happen with the door open but we thought that she had been lost forever. The fact that her first action was to make sure the door was closed before bouncing, gives us hope that the Ellie we knew is still in there.
The keyword “knew” is very important when it comes to Ellie. Anyone would be changed after experiencing whatever she did on the other side of the door. And we really hope that she doesn’t become the next baddie on Locke & Key because of the pain she’s experienced as a result of being thrown in there. She’s still Ellie. And if anything, we know that Rufus can bring her back and set her straight if anything were to happen.

On a final note, it’s so lovely to see Laysla De Oliveira back on Locke & Key. She absolutely killed it in season and we’re so glad that this actress is back and the challenges she’ll face playing someone so different from Dodge. Because we’ve never seen someone with Dodge’s face having to deal with grief, love, and the kind of emotions that only a parent truly understands when it comes to the child she loves.
Locke & Key season two is available on Netflix.
