Locke & Key‘s 2×04 “Forget Me Not” has us afraid for Duncan and anticipating what’s going to happen next because Dodge looks like she’s about to be found out. It’s also giving us all the feels when it comes to Bode and Erin. Both are trying to help Duncan as much as they can. But the deeper they get into things, the more dangerous it all becomes and the more we see how complicated memory is in a world like Locke & Key.
But first up, Duncan. He is absolutely breaking our hearts in “Forget Me Not.” After the events of “Small World” we were hoping that everything would be ok and that his brain would just process the new information like nothing. But that was wishful thinking on our part because adults can’t remember magic and Duncan is being constantly triggered in Key House to remember his past before suddenly and brutally forgetting.
And the way that Duncan approached Bode. We need a moment…it broke our hearts. If Duncan were in his right mind he wouldn’t have done that. And Bode, bless his little soul, was just trying to help his uncle because he saw him in distress. Being pushed like that left Bode shaken and when Duncan realizes what he’s done, he’s going to feel so guilty. But Bode and his big heart aren’t going to give up. That we know.
This whole situation with Duncan also gives us even more feels for Jackie. Our girl is suffering in a way that few understand. And Tyler, he did something wonderful and super romantic because he wanted to brighten her day like she brightens his. Unfortunately, the closer she gets to her birthday, the more her ability to hold onto magic escapes her. And her pleading with Tyler for all this to stop…we feel it and can’t judge her for it.
It does bring up the question, “Who made this possible?” There had to be someone in the Locke family who needed a failsafe, for some reason or another, and decided to make it so with adulthood came the loss of magic. And now we’re backtracking and thinking of Locke & Key as a whole especially because maybe gramps in the cemetery explained it before and we just simply forgot. Which is something that would happen to us.
Anyway, next up is Dodge aka Gabe. The closer we get to the truth being revealed, the messier we feel. Like…it’s going to bring up drama, angst, and make our fav Lockes look back at their time in Matheson with a critical eye because if this could happen with Gabe then what else did they miss? But do we want it? Absolutely. It’s what is making Locke & Key infinitely more interesting, besides the magic and all, and we can’t wait for Dodge and her perfectly laid out plan to crumble.
We’re especially excited for Kinsey to learn the truth. Now that her fear is back within her, she’s going to look at things with a little more caution, which we think our girl really needed. And with the support of her family and friends, it’s going to take her no time to figure out that Gabe isn’t who he says he is. Hell, we already see the cracks forming and her doubts taking the reins because she knows in her heart that something is wrong with Gabe.
And on a final note, we wanted to talk about the conversation that Kinsey and her mom had. We were sure that Kinsey was going to flip out and act like what TV perceives teenagers to be. But I think she understands that her mom deserves love, kindness, and all the good in the world. Also, I think she knows that her dad wouldn’t want her mom to mourn forever. Do we trust Josh? Absolutely not. But it’s nice to see family supporting family even in situations like this.
Locke & Key season two is available on Netflix.
