We’re back! The Rookie 4×07 “Fire Fight” shows us a harrowing episode that solves a key mystery while some characters learn to be helped and Chenford are the cutest partners in the world. Time for a review!
Here we go!
If one word defines The Rookie 4×07 “Fire Fight” it’s “anguish.” We mean, we feel anguish for everyone in this episode, for Bailey, for Nolan, for Wes… for everyone. But let’s start from the beginning.
The Rookie 4×07 “Fire Fight” gives us the answer to the mystery of the serial killer. The first thing we want to say about this is that we want to applaud the producers and writers for creating and performing scenes as harrowing, violent, and full of tension as the ones we see between Nolan and the killer.

That being said, we have been disappointed with this storyline. This mystery had the potential to surprise and affect us if the murderer had been someone we knew or, at least, someone we saw more than a minute on screen. The resolution of the mystery has deflated the very good construction of it.
We mean, the killer turned out to be a guy we don’t even remember seeing before and, honestly, once he has so much screen time in The Rookie 4×07 “Fire Fight” it’s easy to deduce that he may be the killer because we know that the rest of the characters aren’t murderers.
So we think the approach to the storyline was very well-planned, but it had a pretty disappointing outcome.
Anyway, we can only think about what it could have been.
Wes goes deeper and deeper into the void in The Rookie 4×07 “Fire Fight.” He can’t hide anymore. Gray realized that something very serious was going on. He may not know the details but he knows enough to realize that Wes is in a lot of trouble and needs help. Wes just has to ask. At first, we wondered why Gray wasn’t helping him instead of just offering to help.

Then we realized: Wes has to be willing to be helped to make it work. And, in the end, he makes the right decision. Everything reaches the limit when he imagines himself on the ground, bleeding and about to die from a beating. Wes knows that he can’t let that happen and he makes the only right decision after 6 episodes of bad decisions: he confesses everything to Angela.
Wes carried a lot of weight on his back. Secrets and lies weigh like hell and he feels that he’s on the edge of the precipice every minute of every day. He feels that he’s betraying himself and his principles. It’s too much. So he explodes …and as always, it’s with the worst person. It’s stupid and unfair but that’s pressure and stress for you. There comes a point where you can’t breathe.
And Wes needs to breathe again. To feel like himself again. And he knows that only Angela can help him out of this. And we don’t doubt that she will do it, but we aren’t clear what her reaction will be to knowing that Wes was lying to her all this time. We believe that this will create a fracture between them that will eventually be resolved but, until it happens, we have to suffer.
Amid all this anguish we have to say that Chenford is so cute! They’re the best team ever. Seriously, can they get married now? Please and thank you.

PS: Did anyone think that Lucy looked and touched Tim more than necessary when she put the mike on him in The Rookie 4×07 “Fire Fight?” Insert suspicious eye emoji here.
