We’re back! After a hiatus, Halloween brought us The Rookie 4×05 “A.C.H.,” a terrifying episode that was better than we expected and gave us many clues for the future, despite being a transitional episode. Time for a review!
Here we go!
Pete’s a mess. I mean, Nolan was a mess when we met him but he took the reins of his life, risked being an adult, and matured. His brother Pete got stuck in eternal adolescence and frankly, he might think he’s cute but he’s kind of creepy. Some people never grow up and I imagine Pete is one of them.
For a moment, I was proud of him when he overcame his fears (that is, they were legitimate fears although they didn’t justify him to abandon his family, he made his bed and it was time for him to gotta lay in it) and he was willing to be there to his baby but soon I rolled my eyes again with him and his eternal immaturity. I can’t stand Pete and hope I won’t see him again for a long time.

However, I do want to comment on Pete’s mission in The Rookie 4×05 “A.C.H.” Pete’s an addict in rehab, this means that any temptation can spoil his entire fight. In that situation, you are only a second, a moment away from losing everything. And despite that, Nolan had this idea of Pete buying drugs… and it wasn’t the right thing to do. Of course, Nolan had no bad intentions about this and made it clear that if Pete was feeling uncomfortable that’s all but putting Pete in that situation was reckless.
Yes, that helped Pete put some sense and maturity into his brain, if only for a moment, but that doesn’t mean it was the right thing to do. In The Rookie 4×05 “A.C.H.” everything went well but in real life, it most likely would not have been the case because of the temptation to buy drugs, to have them in hand… it would probably have been too much. I wish The Rookie 4×05 “A.C.H.” will close this case in a more real way and without putting someone’s sobriety in danger.
In The Rookie 4×05 “A.C.H.” Chenford continues in this dance of barely visible tracks that draw a path to their future. This time, Lucy, as is normal, was furious that her mother took the liberty of making an appointment for her to freeze her eggs. And I understand it. I mean, nobody seems to do it and everyone says “what are you complaining about? That may help you in the future.” My problem with this, as it happens to Lucy, is not that it will be useful in the future, it’s the lack of limits.
This lady who claims to be Lucy’s mother despised her and her job, she doesn’t talk with Lucy since then and, suddenly, she makes an appointment for Lucy to freeze her eggs. I mean, hello?! Limits? This is why I kind of wanted to hit Tim with my slipper when he seemed to side with this horrible woman. It also happened to me with Angela but less because I love her so much to throw my slipper at her.
But, apart from wanting to hit Tim on the head with my slipper, I was struck by his defense of Lucy’s mother. He confessed on The Rookie 4×05 “A.C.H.” that his childhood was not happy. “There are parents who don’t deserve to have children” and I want to know why he says this and I’m dying to find out.

In any case, I think that phrase is key to understanding why Tim defends Lucy’s mother, I think that no one took care of him when he was a child and he feels that Lucy’s mother is trying to take care of her, in an inappropriate, wrong and exceeding all limits way but with good intention…and he would have given everything because someone will take care of him like that.
Chenford conversation about children has not gone unnoticed by me. Tim had many plans with Isabel that didn’t happen and Lucy…she’s a natural mother. I know what you’re doing here The Rookie. I’m beginning to glimpse Chenford with children in the future and I love that vision.
The Rookie 4×05 “A.C.H.” surprise us with… Nyla and Donovan! We had not expected that before this episode. From the beginning, I saw something extra happening between them, especially from him, and what happened is the logical consequence of the mixture of a lot of alcohol and happy memories.
I mean, this thing about making family costumes, talking about everything and nothing, spending time together, laughing together…Nyla and Donovan inevitably remember the good times of their marriage. Couple that with alcohol and you’ve got crazy, mindless sex… that can mess up their lives.
What they have done is not right because they both have a couple. I can understand what has happened and why it has happened but that doesn’t mean that I agree, much less agree with hiding it. Donovan wants to get engaged to Penelope, he cannot start a marriage with secrets and lies. For her part, Nyla is starting something with James, something nice, but it won’t be really sincere, it won’t be able to get to anything real if she doesn’t tell him what has happened.

Yes, I agree with what Nyla says that it will not happen again but what she doesn’t realize is that their future is spoiled the moment they don’t say anything to their respective couples. I understand the fear of losing Penelope and James that may lead to them hiding it but if Nyla and Donovan confess to James and Penelope what happened and why it happened, there is a possibility that they will forgive them and they can continue to have a future together; at least they could choose what to do.
But if Nyla and Donovan don’t tell them anything, then they will lose them because the problem between them will no longer be only infidelity, but the deception that came later, the loss of trust. And from that… from that, it is much more difficult to recover.
And here ends our The Rookie review. We will be back next week with a new one!
