Apple TV+ must’ve known that we missed our extended family over at AFC Richmond because it dropped a special surprise gift for us. This gift (that keeps on giving) is a Ted Lasso animated short titled “The Missing Christmas Mustache.” It’s pure perfection!
The stop motion short is an extension of the memorable opening sequence used for Ted Lasso 2×04, “Carol of the Bells.” It keeps the holiday spirit alive through animated versions of the beloved characters. It’s so well done that it feels like watching an episode of the award-winning comedy.
The characterizations don’t miss a beat. That returning cast of Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster, and Nick Mohammed help that sentiment come to life.
“The Missing Christmas Mustache” follows the ensemble “as they help Ted search for a lost item that ultimately leads him to realize the meaning of the holiday season.” We don’t want to spoil it for you, but it may make you tear up at the end. However, before it does that, it’ll most certainly make you laugh.

The team breaks up to find Ted’s “snot mop,” and of course, off-camera hijinx ensues. Jamie breaks into a stranger’s car in good faith. Rebecca searches the Royal Opera House because she and Ted (!!!) have gone there before, and there are a few animated montages to enjoy.
Personally, my favorite reference comes at the rushed end of a Zoom call. Hint: It’s about Sexy Christmas. Well, I also adore the little bows that cover Roy’s mouth when he curses. Okay, I love all of it, but that shouldn’t be a shock to anyone. Trust me; you will love it, too.
This ensemble knows how to boost our spirits and mic drop a little kindness into our holidays, even in animated form. Ted Lasso is a unique show that warms our hearts in its ability to follow people through the rough patches of their lives. Still, this show never loses its optimism. “The Missing Christmas Mustache” is the same — all heart and humor.
We will gladly rewatch the first two seasons on an endless loop while we wait for the third, so we are thrilled that we have this adorable short to add to the rotation. It’s a new holiday classic in all die-hard AFC Richmond households. After all, being Richmond til we die doesn’t take a break during the holidays.
