Okay, we can admit when we almost slept on something interesting. It happens to us all but as long as we catch it before it’s too late, we’re all good. That thing we almost let slip past us is ‘The Girl Before’ starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and David Oyelowo. Now, in our defense, this limited series based on the book of the same name by J. P. Delaney has been out since last December but, it was on BBC One and unless you live in the UK or have some trick to access that network, then you missed out on it too.
Thank goodness for HBO Max because now we get to experience this series too and we know it’s going to have us on the edge of our seats. Before we give you the trailer, check out the synopsis.
The Girl Before tells the story of Jane (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who gets the chance to move into a beautiful, ultra-minimalist house designed by architect (David Oyelowo) –the one catch being that occupants have to abide by his list of rules. When Jane makes the shocking discovery that her predecessor Emma (Jessica Plummer) died in the house, she begins to question if her fate will be the same as the girl before…
How creepy is that synopsis? The trailer is even creepier than that. Seriously, just take a look.
See, we told you its creepy right? And ummmm David Oyelowo is giving us the heebie jeebies with his stalker vibes. And you already know we love Gugu Mbatha-Raw. This series is giving me a mashup of Elizabeth Harvest, Hypnotic, and that Black Mirror episode White Christmas all rolled into one. I can’t wait. Also, the series releases on February 10th just a few days before Valentines Day so if you’re not into oooey gooey love-fest type of stuff, then this is probably going to be right up your alley.
We just love a good British thriller. We can’t wait to watch this one. The Girl Before is a four episode limited series that was directed by Lisa Brühlmann.
