Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series has finally dropped the news we’ve been waiting for. And no, it isn’t a trailer for the series. It’s the actual title for the series. It will now be known as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. *shivers in joy because we all know what that means and what’s to come*
The title foreshadows the epic story of everything that came before the movies aka the forging of the iconic rings. It will take us all back to an era “in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads.”
Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay commented on the title by saying, “This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics.” They continued on by saying, “The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.”
But that’s not all they’re excited about.
The Rings of Power will tell the story of the greatest villain that J.RR. Tolkien created: Sauron. Dubbed as one of the “greatest villains= that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen,” he threatened to cover the world in darkness and take away the peace that many in The Rings of Power were used to, from the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon to the farthest reaches of this world.
The announcement of the title for The Rings of Power also came with a video where they actually forged the title of on redwood. The live-action, which features a voice-over of Tolkien’s narration of lines from the famous “Ring Verse,” was done in a blacksmith foundry. The hand-carved wooden ravines shaped into the letters and poured molten metal into them.
But no words can describe how epic this video introduction of the title truly was. Experience it below and let us know in the comments what you’re most excited about when it comes to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to be released Friday, September 2 on Amazon’s Prime Video, with new episodes available weekly.
