Alex Garland‘s Men looks absolutely terrifying. And that was even before we saw the trailer in the first place. Now that we’ve seen the trailer, we’re sure it’s going to be the kind of movie that sticks with you, long after you’ve left the theater. Which is something that Garland is well known for if we look at his work which includes 28 Days Later and Ex Machina.
In the trailer, we are introduced to Harper, played by Jessie Buckley. She is known for Fargo and The Lost Daughter. But back to the story. After the loss of her husband, she retreats to the beautiful English countryside to heal and try to process what has happened. Things take a twisted turn when someone or something follows her from the woods and to her home.
But what’s really terrifying about the trailer for Men is that, besides the husband, every male character is the same man. Meaning he’s played by Rory Kinnear with special effects and prosthetics making him a wide cast of characters who are creepy, invasive, and look at her as if she were some sort of prize to win. One even suggests that the death of her husband is her fault.
Whatever is going on in the trailer for Men, it’s utterly creepy and somehow reflects the experience that women go through every damn day. And you bet we’re going to watch.
