We will say this about Shadowhunters, the chaotic mess of a show that aired from 2016 to 2019 on Freeform and Netflix: it always gave us lots to talk about.
So, so much to talk about.
For that reason, maybe it shouldn’t be that surprising that stars Katherine McNamara, who played Clary, and Dom Sherwood, who played Jace, want to keep the discussion going with a new rewatch podcast. According to their introductory episode, the podcast, titled Return To The Shadows, will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at Shadowhunters.
The podcast description promises interesting facts, analysis of episodes, and “behind the scenes memories that will blow your mind.” Cast and crew members are also expected to join the show. Fans can follow along by re-watching one episode every week and tuning in to hear Kat and Dom’s thoughts.
The trailer posted on March 22nd is a perfect encapsulation of what Shadowhunters was: awkward dialogue between actors who had no chemistry on the show. I guess these two had to host the podcast because they’re the main couple in the books? At least it will be something familiar for the fans.
Indeed, McNamara and Sherwood have made it clear that this podcast is all about reconnecting with fans of Shadowhunters. That, at least, is something we can get behind. These types of podcasts are always fun. They give fans a chance to rediscover old hobbies and relive fun times.
Do we want to do this? Absolutely not. We would very much like to forget that show ever existed. In fact, we have very much been enjoying the revival of the Shadowhunter Chronicles fandom now that the TV show has stopped dominating conversation.
If we have one wish for this podcast, it is this: please, please do not revive any 2016 fandom discourse. We’re not strong enough.
Return To The Shadows debuts April 11th.
