Crimes of the Future just dropped a teaser trailer for the Neon film from David Cronenberg and it’s super trippy. Starring Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, and Viggo Mortensen, it tells the story of a world where the human species has adapted to a more synthetic environment where the body goes through transformations and mutations. And from what we can tell from the teaser trailer, it happens in that pod that you see Mortensen in.
Mortensen plays Saul Tenser, a celebrity performance artist. Along with his partner Caprice, played by Seydoux, they publicly showcase “the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances.” The Crimes of the Future teaser also introduces Stewart’s Timlin. She’s an investigator who is obsessively tracking Saul and Caprice’s movements as part of the National Organ Registry. But they’re not the only people in the middle of this madness.
A mysterious group wants to use Saul’s advancements, mutations, or transformations to “shed a light on the next phase of human evolution.” That line, compared to what we learned in the last paragraph and the teaser trailer below, leads us to believe that things will either spiral out of control of see Saul become part of this mysterious group. Whatever may come, we hope that Stewart doesn’t cross ways with them. But this is a movie. So it’s going to happen.
