The Flight Attendant 2×07 “No Exit” is a mixed bag if we’ve ever seen one. On one hand, Kaley Cuoco continues to give us some of the best acting that she’s ever done. Seriously, top-notch acting that needs to be celebrated in the form of awards. But on another hand, this episode frustrated us to no end with the self-destructive tendencies that make every situation Cassie’s in…just that much worse. And it’s not like it’s new to us. It’s just that it was so glaringly obvious in this episode that we were frustrated beyond belief.
In a way, we understand why Cassie is so hell-bent on destroying her life and chasing after adventure. We too have our own vices and mental health issues. And in a way, we’re fearful of who we will become if everything just…gets better. So in a way, we think that Cassie is afraid to confront her life and see that change is there, ready for her to embrace. She’s also got some kick-ass friends (we’re not going to worry about her blood relatives) who will be there for her no matter what. And they will be the support she needs to lean on as she embraces change.
But of course, change can’t happen in The Flight Attendant without figuring out what’s going on and what the actual conspiracy is. Because Grace, the shocker that we swore up and down it wouldn’t be because it was too obvious, is dead. And whatever answers they might’ve held are gone with them. And honestly, it kind of felt cheap and dramatic. Grace had potential and chemistry with Cassie. And what? You’re just going to make her shatter and then kill herself in front of Cassie? Make it make sense.
Then there’s the shattering of Cassie herself. She’s been through a lot on The Flight Attendant. But this death broke her. You could see it in the way that she shook, mouth falling open over and over, eyes blank. Watching Grace kill herself shattered something in Cassie. And it happened just as Cassie was working on building herself back up from the total collapse she had when she relapsed. It’s unfortunate that Cassie had to witness this and we’re kind of shaking our heads at what comes next for our hero.
Combating the ugghh of this episode was the bright spot of The Flight Attendant 2×07: Annie and Max. We’ve been cheering for them to get their stuff together. And we’ve wanted them to talk things out. Maybe they didn’t need that after all. Maybe all they needed was some sort of action to show the other that they were in it for the long haul. And maybe Annie needed to taze an assassin to realize that Max is the love of her life and that she’s not scared anymore. Basically, whatever comes their way (and that of Cassie’s because they are her ride or dies) they will tackle it together.
As for what comes next for this show, we really have no idea. People have been stabbed, Jenny keeps appearing everywhere, and something is going on with Davey. We don’t know. It’s a mess. And we can’t wait until we finally get some answers that explain who is trying to set up Cassie and the why of it all. We bet it’s Jenny. She’s everywhere and we’ve learned that we can’t trust our instincts as much as we thought we could.
The Flight Attendant new episodes are available Fridays on HBO Max.
