Thor: Love and Thunder really went and gave us characters posters that are not only hot, but that aren’t sexist AF.
First, let’s talk muscles. Thor: Love and Thunder knew what we wanted. Specifically, Taika Waititi knew what we wanted and served it up for us on a silver platter. Because it isn’t just Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor that has the bulging muscles. Oh no, it’s Natalie Portman‘s Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor and Tessa Thompson‘s The Valkyrie. They are just as strong and commanding in their character posters and movie posters for the movie.
And we’re not even mad. We’re absolutely delighted and our eyes are the shape of hearts. We’re also wondering if they can sweep us off our feet. Literally.
But we’re here for these muscles and these posters because of what they represent. For too long we’ve had to endure posters where the women play second fiddle to the men. They have to be rescued and watch as the man saves the day. These muscles and the way that Jane and Valkyrie are posed are positions of power. They don’t need Thor to save them. And he knows it so much that he’d probably be cheering them on while taking a video because he’s an ally like that.
It shows that Thor: Love and Thunder has a self-awareness that we’re done with posters where the women are meek and subservient. Oh, and don’t forget, showing off their asses. (Remember the Hawkeye initiative and how was born to show how ridiculous the poses are for women in comics or posters of any kind?) Marvel is finally starting to understand that they have viewers who want to see people like themselves empowered on screen. And empowered we certainly feel.
