Winter will never, ever leave us. Or at least, Jon Snow won’t. THR is reporting that Kit Harington will reprise the role of Jon Snow in a new sequel series to the Game of Thrones series, which is now in development at HBO. Presumably the series will follow Jon’s adventures North of the Wall, as that’s where he was heading when we last saw him — in the disappointing and frankly, underwhelming finale to the series.
Despite the heavy criticism levied on the series finale of Game of Thrones, a lot of people will probably tune in to see Harington again, and we can’t exactly blame them. But, there are other places to do that. Since his Thrones days, Harington has appeared in Season 2 of Modern Love, and of course, in joined the MCU in Eternals, in a role that promises a lot more in the future.
Basically, Kit Harington is not going away. And we may know nothing about what’s coming in the immediate future for Jon, but the news potentially means any other surviving Game of Thrones character is fair game. What is Arya doing? How did Sansa’s reign go? What happened to Brienne? All valid questions that might now get an answer.
The news makes it seven Thrones related projects now in development, and that’s now even counting the House of the Dragon prequel series, which will debut August 21. Three of those are animated prequel projects, and three are live-action prequels.
