Season six of 9-1-1 continues to impress us with excellent storytelling. “Crash & Learn” picks up where last week left off with Athena’s dad’s car crash. We have more crazy and heartbreaking rescues plus a twist that none of us could have predicted.
Tunnel of Lust
Let’s start with the most ridiculous part of the episode: the “tunnel of lust” as Chim so lovingly descriped it. It starts out innocently enough with the husband noticing something strange in his yard. At first we just thought the husband was obsessed with his plants, but then there’s a twist (of course there is!). The wife is having an affair with the neighbor, Gary, and Gary uses a tunnel to go to between their houses.
The husband figures all of this out and blows up his yard to destroy the “rodent”. While we don’t condone cheating, we can’t believe the husband tried to kill someone! We’re glad Hen decided he needed to be arrested. Blowing someone up definitely should be considered a crime.

Hen’s Exhausting Schedule
Hen fills in for Bobby as temporary captain in “Crash & Learn”. While we were happy for her being named captain, we were afraid of her overextending herself. And it turns out, we were right. Being temporary captain on top of her normal paramedic duties, going to med school and studying for her final exam, not to mention taking care of her family? We would be exhausted trying to do half of that.
It’s so sad that she failed her neurology exam. Will she decide to repeat her second year of med school? Like Karen said, she has to make a choice. And something has to give. Selfishly, we hope she chooses to stay a paramedic so she can stay on the show, but we know she’s worked so hard in med school.
We really felt for her. She tried so hard to do everything, and she didn’t succeed. We definitely understand how that feels.

Athena’s Parents
At the end of last week, Athena’s dad crashed his car into his house. It turns out he had a stroke. Athena and Bobby try to help Athena’s mom but she really doesn’t want their help. We get it. She’s scared about her husband and if he’ll ever fully recover. But she was really stubborn, and we appreciate Bobby standing up for Athena.
What we didn’t expect was the crazy twist at the end. When Bobby and Junior were digging up the foundation to help repair the damange to the house, they found a body. It’s the body of a child. The girl that Athena told Hen about. She went missing after someone took her out of her bed, and they never found her. Until now.
Why was this girl in Athena’s parents house? Did her dad kill her? How will Athena cope with that? We’re really afraid of what comes next.
Other Thoughts:
- Oliver Stark gave an amazing performance as Buck this week. It was so heartbreaking as Buck sat with the retiree and tried to save his life.
- As Hen said, losing someone is always rough, but hopefully this will help Buck figure out what’s important and what really matters in life.
- It’s kind of ironic that such a tragic event happened at a “happiness convention”.
- We like the new guy at the call center. He seems eager to learn and Maddie is a really good teacher.
