9-1-1 is back and we’re so excited to see our favorite characters again. The first episode of season six, “Let The Games Begin”, was action packed (would we expect anything less from this show?) with crazy rescues and some pretty great character and relationship development. Let’s review.
Blimp Emergency!
It wouldn’t be 9-1-1 if there wasn’t some ridiculous disaster, and the season wasted no time in giving us that. The first rescue of season six “Let The Games Begin” involved a blimp catching on fire and crashing into a stadium. To make matters more interesting, a young woman has an artificial heart that stops working. Athena jumps into action and, with a little help from Maddie, she manages to save the girl’s life. Even though it was an intense situation, Athena remained calm and saved the day. We definitely want Athena to be with us in an emergency. And, of course, the rest of the 118 managed to rescue the people in the blimp without any major disasters.

Chim and Maddie: Reunited
Okay, if you’ve read any of our other reviews, you knew we were going to discuss this. We LOVE Chim and Maddie, and we are so excited that the writers realized they need to be back together. It’s clear that both characters have done some maturing and growing over the last few months. Maddie seems so much happier and healthier than she did last season. Chim and Maddie just belong together. We really can’t wait to see how their relationship will grow throughout this season.

Replacing Bobby?
One of the major stories in “Let The Games Begin” involved Bobby choosing a temporary replacement for him when he goes on vacation with Athena. Buck clearly wanted that job. He drove everyone crazy with his new found devotion to “fixing” things and going over the top to prove himself to Bobby. The thing is, he doesn’t need to prove himself. Bobby knows that Buck is an amazing firefighter, and he will be a good captain someday. But right now Buck needs to focus on being a firefighter and fixing things in his personal life … like buying a couch?
We love that Eddie wasn’t bothered at all by Bobby not picking him for temporary captain. Eddie realizes he just came back to the 118 and is just fine where he is. At the end of the day, Bobby picks Hen to replace him. We are kind of worried that Hen is overextending herself with her med school, work, and now being the temporary captain. But like Hen said, it’s just a week, right?
Of course, Bobby and Athena may not make it to their vacation based on what happened at the end of the episode. We can’t believe Athena’s dad drove his car into the house. Did he hit Athena’s mom? Was he drinking? Did he have a stroke? We’ll find out next week. But we really hope both of Athena’s parents are okay!
Other Thoughts:
- We couldn’t watch when the man put his hand in the shredder machine. We knew what was coming. Or at least we thought we did! We were not prepared for his dad to get shot in the chest.
- We wanted to smack the guy running around the stadium screaming “Bomb!” There wasn’t a bomb. And he just freaked everyone else out by screaming and running around like a mad man.
- Give us all the scenes with Buck, Eddie, and Christopher. Actually, give us all the scenes with Christopher. We love that kid.
