Another season of 9-1-1 has come and gone. Luckily, “Starting Over” gave us so many things to look forward to next season. Buck has a clean slate with his relationship status, Maddie and Chimney look like they may be reuniting soon, and it looks like Eddie is back where he belongs. Let’s review.
Buck and Taylor: Done
We called it last week when he said it looks like Buck and Taylor’s relationship is in danger. Buck really couldn’t get over his issues with Taylor reporting the story about Jonah. Even though Taylor said she could try to change, Buck decides that they need to break up.
Honestly, we think this is a good idea. At least for now. These two just had too many things going against them. He wasn’t honest about why he wanted her to move in. And she’s a reporter. She just can’t NOT report a story because of Buck.
Maybe in the future these two can reconcile, but time apart will be good. And it looks like they broke up amicably and wished each other well before going their separate ways. We look forward to seeing what’s next for Buck.
Relationship Goals
Other couples were more fortunate than Buck and Taylor in “Starting Over”. Hen and Karen had a sweet, surprise wedding ceremony in their back yard that we loved. We also loved that Hen’s mom decided to give up her wedding so that she could give Hen an Karen a special day since she wasn’t there the first time. Such a nice gesture and the best way for her to make up for her mistakes in the past.
Maddie and Chimney also look like they’re on their way to getting back together. We love that Buck noticed and had some opinions on the topic even if Chimney didn’t want Buck’s advice. They both want each other to be happy and it seems like Maddie is back to her old self since she’s back at the call center. The next obvious step is for them to start dating again. Maybe next season….
Bobby’s Guilt
Bobby struggled this week with the aftermath of Jonah. Everyone assures him its not his fault, and they’re right. Bobby’s not responsible for Jonah. He’s a good captain but he has his doubts. He almost lost his sobriety, but luckily Eddie shows up to his house to talk to him and Bobby pours out the alcohol.
Bobby also gets tickets for a vacation so that he and Athena can have the honeymoon they never had. We’re happy for them, and we can’t think of a couple that deserves a nice vacation for than these two.
Job Changes
We mentioned that Maddie went back to the call center which we’re thrilled about. It also looks like May is off to USC in the fall. It’s the right path for her, but we hope she still makes appearances on the show. We’ve grown quite fond of her.
We’re also beyond excited that Eddie is back at the 118. This wasn’t mentioned, but we loved seeing him in action at the very end of the episode. Eddie belongs here and now that he’s working through his problems, we can’t wait to see him back with the team next season.
But we’re wondering what this means for Lucy. We do like her and she seems to work well with the rest of the team (especially since she and Buck have moved past their kiss). Will she be back? Is there a spot for her?
Other Thoughts
- We laughed at the girl who had issues with her hair extensions. Until we saw what was in her hair. Why would you think using hair from dead people is okay?
- The first rescue was intense with the firetruck going over the cliff. It really is a miracle Bobby and Lucy weren’t hurt.
9-1-1 will return for season 6 on Fox.
